Max Introduces New “Extra Member Add-On” Feature for Subscribers in the U.S.
On Tuesday, Max unveiled a new feature tailored for its U.S. audience: the “Extra Member Add-On,”priced at $7.99 per month. This option comes at a slight premium of $1 compared to Netflix’s similar offering. A standout aspect of this feature is its ability to let users transfer an existing adult profile to the newly created extra member account, ensuring that binge-watchers retain their viewing history and preferences.
“Extra Member Add-On and Profile Transfer are two key Max advancements, designed to help viewers with a new way to enjoy our best-in-class content at an exceptional value, and offer subscribers greater flexibility in managing their accounts,” stated JB Perrette, CEO and President of Warner Bros. Discovery’s Global Streaming and Games. “These updates provide a simple way for subscribers to add-on a new member to their account, or for existing subscribers who have users outside of their household to smoothly, and in an uninterrupted fashion, transition their profile so that extra member can continue to access Max.”
This development comes two years after Netflix’s password-sharing crackdowns, which forced many users to reconsider their account access options. As a result, Netflix’s intention to secure paid subscriptions has been successful, pushing users to either sign up for their own accounts starting at $7.99 per month or become an “extra member”for $6.99 under an existing account.
Max has always positioned itself as a premium service. Its ad-supported tier starts at $9.99 per month, while the “Premium”tier comes in at $20.99 per month or $209.99 annually.
