Marvel’s New Hulk Debuts by Battling the Gods

Miles Morales’ Therapist Transforms into Marvel’s Latest Superhero

Dr. Keisha Kwan hulks out in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #34 cover art by Federico Vicentini

In recent issues, Miles Morales has been designated as the champion of Anansi, the trickster god, which thrusts him into conflict with Ares, the previous Dark Avenger, and his champion, War-Cry. This forthcoming arc, titled ‘God War’, promises to explore alliances as various deities select their sides. Despite sporting a powerful new Vibranium suit, Miles finds himself overwhelmed, but with the aid of iconic superheroes like Hulk and Thor, along with the emergence of his own Hulk, Powerlift, he stands a fighting chance.

Dr. Kwan made her first appearance in 2023, assisting Miles in overcoming challenges that affected his Spider-Sense. As a dedicated fitness enthusiast, she is also a former mentee of Doc Samson, who gained remarkable powers from absorbing Bruce Banner’s gamma energy. Creator Cody Ziglar expressed his excitement about Powerlift’s development:

Dr. Keisha Kwan has been a slow burn in our book for almost two whole years, and I’m SO excited for folks to finally see her Powerlift form in action! Federico did an amazing job designing her – we love gamma/Hulk characters almost as much as we love the work of Akira Toriyama; Powerlift is our homage to both! Marco has drawn some incredible scenes with her that I think folks are gonna love.

Exploring the lore surrounding gamma powers, they often unveil hidden facets of an individual’s personality, morphing them into a formidable ‘Hulk’ characterized by exceptional strength. Powerlift appears to be no different. In her debut, she is poised to unleash a powerful strike against a Greek god, tapping into the Hulk legacy of confronting deity foes. With this exciting development, Powerlift is ready to make a significant impact in Marvel’s narrative.
