Legal Issues Prevent Major Feature of Vampire Survivors on PlayStation

In a recent announcement, developer Poncle has revealed that the anticipated cross-save feature for Vampire Survivors on PlayStation 4 and 5 will not be included due to unforeseen legal complications. This news comes as a disappointment to players eagerly awaiting this feature, which was previously confirmed by the studio. Poncle expressed regret about the situation, noting it was unaware of the legal constraints before its earlier statements.

As detailed on the official Vampire Survivors X account, the upcoming updates for PS4 and PS5 will not support cross-save functionality, despite it being available on other platforms such as PC, mobile, and Xbox. The studio mentioned that a legal obligation prevents them from sharing specific information related to their partners, thus hindering the deployment of this feature. Back in January, Poncle had confidently announced that the 1.13 patch would introduce cross-save capabilities across all platforms, allowing users to seamlessly transition their gameplay between systems (source: VGC).

Could Cross-Save Still Be an Option for PlayStation Users?

Unlikely, Yet Not Impossible

According to updates from the developers on X, while “the chances of Cross-Save coming to PlayStation consoles are now very slim, but not impossible,” the team intends to persevere in their discussions with PlayStation to find a resolution. Despite their optimism, Poncle’s lack of certainty reflects caution, as they wish to avoid making further unfulfilled promises.

The demand for cross-save functionality continues to grow, as seen with many major titles, including the ever-popular No Man’s Sky. Given that Vampire Survivors saw its release on PlayStation just last year and has garnered critical acclaim, this development is likely disheartening for players who are new to the game and who may play it across different platforms.

Our Perspective: Disappointing News, But Appreciation for Transparency

Transparency From Poncle Is Noteworthy

Although it’s certainly disappointing when developers have to retract previously assured features, Poncle’s clear communication about the situation helps alleviate some of the discontent. The unforeseen legal circumstances were beyond their control, and the studio was not aware of these complications at the time they made their commitments. While fans may feel let down, this level of transparency can lead to a better understanding of the situation.

Since its launch, Vampire Survivors has also seen rich content additions, like the Castlevania DLC that debuted last Halloween. Given the engaging gameplay and substantial content the game offers, it is likely that the absence of the cross-save feature won’t deter fans from enjoying their experience.
