Overview

  • Marvel Studios is ramping up promotional activities for Thunderbolts*, set for release on May 2.
  • The film boasts an impressive ensemble and is cultivating strong enthusiasm among fans of the MCU.
  • Teasers depict an eclectic team of anti-heroes stepping up to face challenges reminiscent of the Avengers.

As the countdown to May 2 approaches, Marvel Studios is intensively promoting Thunderbolts*. Recently, most of the film’s cast attended CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where they showcased additional footage and a behind-the-scenes featurette. In conjunction with these events, a fresh teaser has also been unveiled.

This film appears to be the first major attraction that true MCU enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating in 2025, despite the success of Marvel’s recent streaming offerings like Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and Daredevil: Born Again. However, the lifeblood of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has traditionally relied on its blockbuster films. Thunderbolts seems poised to rejuvenate that cinematic magic, especially with a star-studded cast that includes Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and David Harbour, alongside newcomers Lewis Pullman and Geraldine Viswanathan. This combination is sure to excite Marvel aficionados.

With less than a month until the film’s debut, Marvel Studios decided it was the perfect time to drop a new teaser on social media, revealing a mix of fresh and familiar footage. Fans are left wondering how Bucky’s unconventional team of anti-heroes will confront formidable adversaries like Sentry and/or Void. One thing is certain—the group’s antics can definitely be compared to the beloved Avengers.

The latest teaser opens with Bucky addressing a significant threat, which appears to be linked to Sentry and/or Void, wreaking havoc and disintegrating individuals. While previous threats like the Chitauri invasion were formidable, this new menace seems to take devastation to an entirely new level. Yelena questions Bucky’s judgment, insisting that his chosen team members “have all done bad things,”suggesting an interesting dynamic among the group.

As the teaser progresses, Bucky asserts, “We could be the people that are coming”to restore order. Since the Avengers disbanded in 2019, the MCU has functioned without a designated hero squad, but it’s evident that a cohesive team is crucial when faced with extraordinary threats. Whether the Thunderbolts (or even a possible Dark Avengers) will step into this role for the long haul remains to be seen as we navigate future stories like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Thunderbolts* is set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025.
