- This anime-themed cosmetics package has reignited discussions regarding the appropriateness of such items within the Call of Duty franchise.
- The bundle features a vibrant pink operator skin, two new weapon blueprints, and a variety of other cosmetic enhancements.
In a bold move, Activision has launched a new bundle titled Otaku We Gotchu for its popular titles, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone. However, the anime-inspired aesthetics have drawn considerable backlash from fans, with many labeling it as “something you’d find in a free-to-play mobile game.”Over the years, the introduction of unconventional operator skins has created a rift within the community, with vocal critiques from players who feel these new cosmetics diverge too far from the series’ military roots.
Since its release on October 25, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been the center of controversy surrounding its operator skins. In November, the launch of a Mastercraft bundle featuring a neon green Dragon Knight operator skin and a corresponding weapon blueprint bewildered many fans. While some criticized the skin for its incongruity with the game’s early 90s setting, others argued that Call of Duty is more arcade shooter than military simulation, suggesting that whimsical skins are a part of its identity.
Community Reaction to the Anime Bundle
Despite ongoing calls for more realistic operator skins from a section of the Black Ops 6 player base, Activision appears steadfast in its commitment to releasing extravagant cosmetic bundles. The newest addition, Otaku We Gotchu, is characterized by its quirky and colorful offerings, including a Kawaii emote, an anime-themed operator skin, and two distinctive weapon blueprints: Helm (for the LW3A1 Frostline sniper rifle) and Hardwire (for the C9 submachine gun). Additional cosmetic items included are a charm, a spray, a loading screen, an emblem, and a specialized reticle.

While the bright pink operator skin may not seem as outrageous compared to some previous offerings, the inclusion of a miniature version of the skin in the weapon inspect feature for the LW3A1 sniper rifle has stirred further discontent among fans. On Reddit, community members expressed bewilderment at the willingness of others to purchase such cosmetics, with suggestions that these items would be more acceptable if players had the option to disable them through game settings.
The demand for an opt-out feature for the quirky operator skins has gained momentum among the fanbase, especially with each new release pushing the boundaries of absurdity. Reports of an upcoming bundle featuring a finishing move that involves a unicorn fart have only amplified the call for player customization options.
