Paramount+ Renews ‘Landman’ for Second Season
Paramount+ is returning to the oil-rich landscapes of West Texas with a significant announcement: the drama series Landman has officially been renewed for its second season.
This exciting renewal comes just two months after the show, co-created by Taylor Sheridan—the mastermind behind Yellowstone—wrapped up its acclaimed first season starring Billy Bob Thornton.
Strong Performance and Viewership
Landman made a remarkable impact by ranking among the top ten original streaming series during the fourth quarter of 2022. Its impressive run continued into January, accumulating nearly 9.7 billion minutes of viewing time over 11 weeks, as reported in Nielsen’s streaming rankings. Other Paramount+ and Sheridan collaborations, including Tulsa King and Lioness, also enjoyed a spot in the top tier of streaming originals.
Cultural Resonance and Success
Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount, highlighted the show’s success by stating, “Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year due to Taylor Sheridan’s exceptional knack for connecting with the cultural zeitgeist. Its Neo-western themes of rugged individualism and ambition resonate deeply amid ongoing discussions surrounding energy, climate change, and economic growth.” He further noted that the series has propelled Paramount+ to become the second-largest streaming video-on-demand service in the U.S. in terms of original hours watched during Q4.
Cast and Production Team
In Landman, Billy Bob Thornton takes on the pivotal role of a fixer—a character who bridges the gap between field workers and financiers in the oil industry. He is joined by a stellar cast that includes Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Colm Feore. The first season also featured Jon Hamm in a notable role.
Behind the Scenes
Landman draws inspiration from the Boomtown podcast produced by Imperative Entertainment and Texas Monthly. The series is a collaborative effort from MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions. Both Taylor Sheridan and podcast creator Christian Wallace serve as co-creators and executive producers alongside a talented lineup of producers including David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, and others.
As Landman gears up for its eagerly anticipated second season, audiences can expect even more compelling storytelling and gripping themes that reflect contemporary societal issues.
