Jon Hamm’s Return to SNL with Kieran Culkin’s Hilarious Cameo
In a lively episode of Saturday Night Live, Jon Hamm received a delightful surprise from Kieran Culkin during his opening monologue. This marked Hamm’s fourth time hosting the iconic show, a notable achievement that he celebrated by reflecting on his extensive history with SNL, including 14 guest appearances.
With a playful montage showcasing highlights from his past, Hamm emphasized the significance of cameos in comedy. He remarked, “A cameo can transform a mediocre sketch into something slightly better, or can provide much-needed energy to a wandering monologue.” It was during this moment that Culkin made a humorous entrance on stage.
“Hey, Jon,” Culkin greeted as the audience erupted in applause, adding, “I’m just making a cameo.” Hamm quipped about his ability to shine solo, to which Culkin responded, “I’m sorry, man, hey, I’ll make it up to you.” The banter continued as Hamm cheekily requested, “Okay, cool, just give me your Oscar!” Culkin deflected the request with humor, stating, “Well, don’t you have enough, ma’am? I’ve seen those photos of you in your gray sweatpants.”
As Culkin exited the stage, Hamm playfully jostled his friend, declaring, “Alright, whatever dude, you know, that Mad Men was better than Succession.” In a friendly retort, Culkin replied, “I love you, bye.” After Culkin’s departure, Hamm expressed his admiration for SNL, stating, “Whether I’m hosting or just popping by, it’s great to be on this show in any capacity. It’s an American institution, and there’s nowhere I’d rather be than right here live on this stage saying we’ve got a great show for you tonight!”
Hamm, known for his role in Your Friends & Neighbors, made a much-anticipated return to SNL after last hosting in 2010, this time alongside musical guest Lizzo.
SNL’s Cold Open Takes on Trump with a Religious Twist
The evening began with a satirical cold open that addressed President Donald Trump’s recent tariff plan, cleverly intertwining it with Easter themes. The sketch started with a voiceover narrating the biblical account of Jesus cleansing the temple, setting the stage for a comedic portrayal.
Mikey Day portrayed Jesus, dramatically proclaiming, “This should be a house of prayer. These merchants and money changers have turned it into a den of thieves. I will rid this place of all its money.” Just then, James Austin Johnson stormed in as Trump, delivering a humorous line, “Remind you of anyone?”
Johnson’s Trump continued, “I also got rid of money last week, but instead of just one dimple, I did it to a whole country, maybe even the globe. The money’s gone high! It’s me, your favorite president, Donald Jesus Trump, comparing myself to the Son of God once again; many people are even calling me the Messiah.”
