Kevin Hart Reveals How Ice Cube Influenced His Decision to Stop Performing Stunts

Kevin Hart Attributes Shift in Stunt Work to Ice Cube

In a recent episode of Hot Ones, actor and comedian Kevin Hart disclosed that his decision to cease performing his own stunts in films can be traced back to an incident involving Ice Cube. Host Sean Evans prompted Hart to share tales of stunts gone awry, leading to an intriguing story that left a lasting impact on Hart’s perspective.

Lessons from the Set of Ride Along

Hart recounted a memorable moment from the filming of Ride Along, where Ice Cube accidentally struck a stuntman in the face during a scene. “I got a good story about Ice Cube,” Hart remarked, revealing that the stuntman was knocked out momentarily, which shocked Hart into realizing the inherent dangers of stunt work: “Oh! That can happen? We can actually get hit?”

As the situation unfolded, Hart shared that Ice Cube comforted the injured stuntman, reassuring him that he would be alright, even as blood was visible. This incident was a crucial turning point for Hart, influencing him to reconsider his previous enthusiasm for performing stunts.

The Shift in Perspective

Reflecting on his youthful bravado, Hart compared the reckless abandon of his earlier years to his current mindset at 45. “The energy that I used to have… younger me was like, ‘Throw me on the table! You have got to slam me? Go ahead,'” he expressed. Now, he humorously admits, “I don’t even want to run.”

A Tribute to Stunt Performers

In addition to sharing his personal experiences, Hart celebrated the talent and bravery of the stunt community. “Those guys do not get enough credit, man,”he declared passionately. He argued for the establishment of a dedicated award to honor their contributions, which often go unnoticed by the general public.

Hart emphasized, “Some of these movies that you have watched and fallen in love with—where guys are falling from buildings or going through windows—they are using real people for that.” He recounted witnessing stuntmen endure significant injuries and recalled how directors often push for additional takes, disregarding the risks involved.

About Ride Along

The 2014 film Ride Along features Hart as Ben, a security guard who desperately tries to impress his girlfriend’s brother, police officer James, portrayed by Ice Cube. The storyline unfolds during a 24-hour patrol in Atlanta, filled with comedic and action-packed moments.

This interview marked Hart’s return to Hot Ones, where he had previously appeared in 2016.
