Katy Perry Cancels Guadalajara Shows: Setback in Lifetime Tour After Blue Origin Mission

Katy Perry Cancels Concerts in Guadalajara Amidst Venue Delays

Katy Perry has officially canceled her scheduled concerts in Guadalajara, Mexico, which were set for May 1 and May 2. These performances were part of her highly anticipated The Lifetimes Tour, slated to commence on April 23, 2025, in support of her upcoming album, 143.

On April 21, the pop icon took to her Instagram story to share the unfortunate news. A report from the Daily Mail highlighted her explanation regarding the situation surrounding the venue.

“Sadly, I learned that the construction of Arena Guadalajara will not be complete for their scheduled shows next week, which includes mine on May 1 and 2. Last week I sent my team to the Arena to make sure there wasn’t anything we could do to make this happen but it was evident when they arrived that the venue was not ready or safe to receive my show or an audience,”she wrote.

This concert cancellation follows Perry’s recent venture beyond Earth, where she participated in an 11-minute space flight sponsored by Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon. This sensational journey took place on April 14 and was marked by her participation alongside several other notable women, including journalist Gayle King and activist Amanda Nguyen, as reported by the BBC.

Shortly after this space mission, Perry shared a video on her social media, showcasing their experience while floating in the spacecraft and thanking Blue Origin for the opportunity.

“Still processing this incredible journey. Thank you @blueorigin and to my space sisters, taking up space AND making room in space for all – 143. See you on tour (when I come down, figuratively),”she wrote.

However, not all feedback has been positive. Several celebrities, including Emily Ratajkowski and Amy Schumer, have voiced criticism regarding the mission, questioning its significance in the context of global issues.

“Look at the state of the world and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space. For what? What was the marketing there? And then to try to make it like… I’m disgusted, literally I’m disgusted,”Ratajkowski remarked in a viral TikTok video.

Her video garnered massive attention, accumulating over 250K likes on social media. Dr. Tanya Harrison, an expert in space exploration, also expressed skepticism about the mission, characterizing it as a “marketing stunt”that promotes the burgeoning industry of space tourism.

“People were like, ‘Oh, this is so cool. Katy Perry is going to space.’ The cynical part of me wants to call it a marketing stunt. This is a company promoting the fact they can launch tourists into space,”she stated.

Looking ahead, Perry’s The Lifetimes Tour is set to launch on April 23, 2025, culminating on December 7, 2025, in Abu Dhabi. The tour will feature Rebecca Black as the supporting act, marking Perry’s return to touring since her 2018 Witness tour.
