In a surprising turn of events, the third season of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory has completely reshaped my perception of a character I once found unlikable. As a long-time admirer of the Jurassic Park franchise, I was initially drawn to this animated Netflix adaptation with both anticipation and skepticism. However, the series has transcended expectations, boasting a narrative that, in my view, eclipses the overall experience of the Jurassic World trilogy. Season three, in particular, stands out for its impressive character development and storytelling, which I found both engaging and refreshing.
Notably, the evolution of the characters throughout the season was a standout feature. Instead of solely emphasizing the Nublar Six, the series extended its focus to include both supporting and returning characters, contributing to a richer narrative experience. By the end of Season 3, one character I had previously disliked surprisingly emerged as my favorite.

Initially, the Handler appeared as a character I could not connect with in Jurassic World: Chaos Theory; her narrative role painted her as a formidable antagonist. With her primary ambition focused on eliminating the Nublar Six using vicious atrociraptors, her cold demeanor made it hard to muster any sympathy. Her actions, devoid of empathy, instantly created a sense of unease. Moreover, the lack of backstory and depth in her character added to my grievances, leaving much to be desired.
Despite occasionally connecting with her through her enigmatic presence, my frustration lingered due to the scant development. Limited context beyond her lethal pursuits kept me intrigued yet unsatisfied, as I yearned to understand her motivations better. Fortunately, the third season shed light on the Handler’s character, transforming her into one of the most multifaceted and chilling figures in the Jurassic franchise.
The Handler: A Complex Character
Introducing a Deeper, More Emotional Narrative
Season 3 of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory thrusts the Handler into a poignant struggle that reveals her multifaceted personality. Soyona Santos’ decision to sell Tiger, Ghost, Red, and Panthera as weapons brings out an unexpected side of the Handler. While she is compliant with Santos’ wishes, her genuine emotional attachment to the atrociraptors becomes apparent, deepening my understanding of her character.
Her desperation and anger, particularly when her bond with the dinosaurs is threatened, show a level of complexity I had not anticipated. This season marks the first time we see an unhinged side to her character, highlighting her realistic emotional turmoil. Despite her actions as a villain, which often seem devoid of compassion, her immense respect for the life of her dinosaurs resonates with viewers.
Interestingly enough, the Handler never says a word throughout the series; however, the talent of voice actor Sumalee Montano enhances her impact in remarkable ways. The depth of her connection with the atrociraptors exemplifies not only her nurturing instincts but also reveals a unique familial love that transcends their roles as mere weapons. This bond complicates her character and makes her eventual fate all the more tragic.
The Handler’s Fate: A Somber Conclusion
Handler’s Death Marks a Poignant End to Her Arc
Having developed a newfound appreciation for the Handler after the emotional rollercoaster of Season 3, it is truly disheartening to realize she will not continue in potential future seasons. The finality of her struggle for her beloved atrociraptors seems tragically futile, leading to her and Ghost’s demise. This narrative choice not only reinforces the perils of interacting with dinosaurs but also serves as an insightful commentary on the series’ overarching themes of survival and danger inherent in the Jurassic world.
Ultimately, the Handler emerged as a more compelling and sympathetic figure than Soyona Santos. While many antagonists in the Jurassic Park saga fall flat with simplistic motivations, the Handler’s story arc in Season 3 enriches her character in remarkable ways. Although I would have preferred a different outcome, it is comforting to have gained insight into her emotional struggles and motivations before her heart-wrenching ending.
