Tribute to Judith Parker Harris: Renowned CEO and Film Producer

Judith Parker Harris, known for her pivotal role as president and CEO of Worldwide Entertainment Corp., has passed away at the age of 74. She is best remembered for her connection to the iconic 1958 sci-fi film The Blob, which marked the cinematic debut of Steve McQueen. Her death occurred on March 31 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles following a prolonged struggle with multiple sclerosis, as confirmed by a publicist.

The Legacy of The Blob

The Blob, directed by Irvin S. Yeaworth Jr. and produced by Parker Harris’ future husband, Jack H. Harris, tells the chilling tale of an alien organism that crashes to Earth, consuming everything in its path. Created on a modest budget of $110,000, the film proved to be a financial success, earning over $3 million worldwide.

Its popularity led to a sequel in 1972, directed by Larry Hagman, and a big-budget reboot released in 1988 by TriStar Pictures, which was directed by Chuck Russell. Excitingly, a new iteration of The Blob is currently in development, set to be written and directed by David Brucker for Warner Bros. Discovery.

Contributions to the Film Industry

Parker Harris played an instrumental role in expanding the reach of The Blob by securing a licensing deal with Bally’s, resulting in the creation of Blob-themed slot machines for casinos. In 1991, alongside her husband, she produced Blobermouth, a comedic homage to the original film, highlighting her influence and versatility in the industry.

Her oversight extended beyond just one project; Parker Harris managed a diverse library of WEC films, including notable titles like 4D Man (1959), Paradisio (1962), and Kill the Shogun (1975). At the time of her passing, she was actively involved in developing new film projects, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to the cinematic arts.

A Multifaceted Career

Beginning her career in her early 20s as a commercial producer and director, Parker Harris crafted over 3,000 advertisements for prominent clients such as Shell Oil and Sears after moving from Sacramento to Los Angeles. She later founded an advertising agency serving various sectors, including healthcare and travel.

A Leader and Advocate for Women

Parker Harris was a celebrated figure in the industry, honored with the Crystal Award from Women in Film for her contributions, particularly in shaping public service announcement productions. She also received a Clio Award for excellence in advertising. Her leadership extended to the L.A. chapter of the National Speakers Association and as a founding member of GreenLight Women, a community dedicated to amplifying diverse voices in media and entertainment.

A Legacy of Empowerment

In response to her personal challenges with multiple sclerosis, Parker Harris founded Health Esteem International, focusing on helping individuals navigate their health journeys. Her passion for wellness, paired with her professional expertise, empowered many to seek personalized solutions.
