Jay Duplass to Be Honored at San Luis Obispo International Film Festival

Renowned filmmaker Jay Duplass is set to make an appearance at the upcoming San Luis Obispo International Film Festival (SLO Film Fest), where he will be awarded a spotlight honor. The festival will take place from April 24 to April 29, with Duplass participating on April 27.

A Spotlight on New Work: The Baltimorons

During the festival, Duplass will present a screening of his latest film, The Baltimorons, which recently premiered at SXSW in Austin, Texas. This engaging narrative follows a man newly embracing sobriety through an unexpected dental emergency on Christmas Eve, leading to a romantic entanglement with his older dentist. The film stars Michael Strassner, Liz Larsen, and Olivia Luccardi, and marks Duplass’s first feature film since he co-wrote and directed The Do-Deca-Penathlon in 2012.

A Tribute to an Independent Film Pioneer

The festival will kick off with DJ Ahmet, the award-winning audience choice from Sundance, and conclude with Daryl Hannah’s documentary, Coastal, which focuses on Neil Young’s solo tour. Furthermore, the festival will spotlight a program dedicated to the legacy of David Lynch, emphasizing his passion for meditation, as well as Ecologistics, a series of environmentally themed documentary shorts.

The Duplass Brothers: A Legacy of Innovation

Jay Duplass, along with his brother Mark, established their cinematic reputation in the early 2000s with a string of independent and mainstream films, including The Puffy Chair, Baghead, and Cyrus. They also collaborated on the critically acclaimed series Togetherness, born from their partnership with HBO, which facilitated multiple other productions. Their creative toolkit notably includes the Emmy-winning Netflix docuseries Wild Wild Country, alongside significant on-screen performances in projects such as Industry, Transparent, and Beatriz at Dinner.
