“It’s Gonna Make Me Cry” – Emotional Moment for Love on the Spectrum Star James’ Mom After He Faces No Matches in Speed Dating

Season 3 of Love on the Spectrum: A Journey of Hope and Emotion

The much-anticipated third season of Love on the Spectrum debuted on Netflix on April 2, 2025. This season not only brings back two familiar couples but also introduces a new group of contestants on the autism spectrum, all on a quest to discover meaningful romantic connections.

James and His Speed Dating Experience

In the second episode, we see James returning to his family home in Boston after participating in a speed dating event. His parents, June and Lawrence, were waiting eagerly at the kitchen table to hear about his experience.

“It’s gonna make me cry,”June said before wiping some tears.

While James described his evening as “well enough,”he noted that out of the six women he interacted with, only two piqued his interest: Erika and Jackie (short for Jacqueline).

“Oh, I think it went well enough, I suppose. Unfortunately, only two out of the six women with whom I interacted really interested me, as sad as that is. Their names were Erika and Jackie,”James explained.

Encouragement Amid Disappointment

When June asked if he might be being “too picky,”James expressed that he didn’t feel any connection with the other girls he met, reinforcing his belief that it’s impossible to cultivate feelings that simply aren’t there. His father, Lawrence, then asked if he enjoyed the evening, to which James replied affirmatively. Lawrence highlighted the importance of having fun and making new connections, regardless of the outcomes.

“Hey, James, it’s Jen from speed dating. It was really great seeing you… Unfortunately, you’ve had no matches this time. I’m so sorry,”Jen informed James during a phone call.

Upon learning that he had no matches from the event, James maintained a positive demeanor. He acknowledged that he was accustomed to such news, having experienced this in the past without any expectations. Despite the disappointment, he appreciated Jen’s straightforwardness in conveying the results.

Family Support and Positivity

While James demonstrated resilience in the face of rejection, his mother June felt deeply affected by the news. Tears welled up in her eyes as she empathized with her son’s pursuit of love, revealing the emotional toll these experiences can take on parents.

“Yeah. That’ll be good. Good attitude. Well, I’m sorry that you didn’t have any matches… And hopefully in the future, you will find a match,”June reacted with concern.

Lawrence tried to uplift James by reminding him that future opportunities would arise, encouraging him not to dwell on this setback. This moment of familial support served to comfort James, who retained a hopeful outlook for the future.
