Baldur’s Gate 3 by Larian Studios is out on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, but does it support crossplay? Get all the details about cross-platform gaming in this RPG.
As players dive into the Dungeons and Dragons universe of Baldur’s Gate 3, understanding if the game offers crossplay and cross-progression becomes paramount.
As gameplay in Baldur’s Gate 3 revolves around party mechanics, it’s important to know if the right features will be available to you before you try to join your friends in multiplayer.
Is Baldur’s Gate crossplay?
While Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t feature crossplay yet, the devs have officially confirmed that crossplay will come to the game in the future.
Larian’s Head of Publishing Michael Douse has said that crossplay was something Larian had planned since the early development of Baldur’s Gate 3. “It’s in the roadmap, and though we have an idea of when we’d like to get it ready, we don’t want to put a date on it until we’re sure,” he said.
With no officially announced date for crossplay, fans will likely be waiting a little while longer. Now that the game is available on Xbox Series X|S, as well as PS5 and PC, hopefully, crossplay won’t be too far away.
It’s worth noting that if you are on PC and playing either on Windows or on Mac, it seems like you will be able to play with each other irrespective of whether you are using GoG or Steam.
Does Baldur’s Gate 3 feature cross-platform progression?
We can confirm that Baldur’s Gate 3 features cross-platform progression. This means you will have a cross-save across PC, Mac, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Hence, you can switch between platforms at any time without losing your story progression.
