The internet was left outraged after influencer Emily Mariko released her “ugly” $120 tote bag… but that hasn’t stopped it from selling out.
Influencers releasing merch is nothing new, however, one particular TikToker has sparked outrage due to the price tag attached to her ‘Farmers Market Tote’.
Emily Mariko rose to fame on the platform following her easy-to-follow recipe for the viral salmon and rice bowl and has since amassed over 12.7 million followers.
However, her move to merchandise has left many fans scratching their heads after it was revealed the tote bag would cost buyers $120. Despite Mariko’s comment section largely slamming the “ugly” accessory for being overpriced, the bag is now sold out.

The tote bag, which comes in colors “eucalyptus” and “strawberry milk” , is advertised as 100% cotton, made with a “soft brushed canvas” and featuring a “large interior zip-closure hanging pocket, as well as an exterior pocket to store your phone.”
However, this was not enough for followers to justify the hefty price tag attached to the bag, with Mariko called out for trying to sell an “objectively really ugly bag” for $120 during a time in which many are struggling financially.
Viewers have compared the bag to something found at Shein or Trader Joe’s, with one person commenting, “Are you mentally ok? Why would you expect anyone pay $120 for a bag which is worth max $5?”

“So I either buy groceries for $120, or a grocery bag for $120 with no money to make use of it,” another wrote, with many stating the price was “delusional” considering the current economy. However, despite all the hate for the bag, the site now states it has sold out.
Baffled and looking for answers, viewers are now pressing for those who purchased the bag to reveal themselves. One TikToker, however, presented another theory as to how the largely unpopular bag managed to grab sales; “I’m a small business owner and when you see “sold out” it’s part of marketing.”
