Introducing the Netflix K-drama: Boyfriend on Demand

On February 20, 2025, Netflix announced that BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and Seo In-Guk would star in its upcoming romantic comedy series, Boyfriend On Demand (working title).

This innovative series is set in a virtual reality environment where users can subscribe to virtual boyfriends. As the narrative unfolds, the emotional bonds created within this simulated reality begin to spill over into real life.

Directed by Kim Jung-sik—renowned for projects like Strong Girl Namsoon and No Gain No Love—the series features Jisoo as Seo Mi-rae, a webtoon producer who has never experienced a romance until a surprising device known as “Monthly Boyfriend” enters her life.

This device ushers her into a virtual dating adventure, allowing her to explore love through interactions with idealized male characters. Seo In-guk will portray Park Kyeong Nam, a competitive colleague known for his impressive skills and somewhat aloof persona.

Though Mi-rae finds Kyeong Nam challenging, there’s an undisclosed personal secret he harbors, which is anticipated to significantly impact their relationship dynamics. As of now, further details on the release schedule for Boyfriend On Demand remain undisclosed.

BLACKPINK’s Jisoo first gained prominence as a lead in the series Snowdrop (2021) alongside Jung Hae-in and previously made cameo appearances in shows like The Producers (2015) and Arthdal Chronicles (2019). She has recently been featured in Newtopia and is set to star in The Prophet: Omniscient Reader.

On the other hand, Seo In-guk rose to fame with his role in Reply 1997 (2012) and subsequently starred in multiple popular K-dramas including Hello Monster, Shopping King Louie, The Smile Has Left Your Eyes, and Doom at Your Service. In addition to acting, he is also a singer who achieved success after winning the talent show Superstar K in 2009.
