In Solo Leveling, Jinwoo’s Most Powerful Shadow Makes Beru Seem Weak

Warning: Contains spoilers for Solo Leveling. The second season of Solo Leveling has concluded, wrapping up the thrilling Jeju Island arc and solidifying its status as one of the most popular titles in anime today. With each weekly episode release, the series broke numerous records, attracting a wave of new fans. However, the mysterious appearance of the Monarchs in the final episode left viewers eagerly anticipating more, prompting many to turn to the original manhwa for clarity.

Since the nail-biting confrontation between Sung Jinwoo and Igris at the end of the first season, Jinwoo’s signature ability to summon and command an army of shadows has been central to the narrative. Although by the end of season two, Jinwoo has integrated only a handful of key allies into his ranks, readers of the manhwa will discover a much larger array of characters, including the fan-favorite Beru. Yet, none compare to one particular shadow: The Grand Marshal, Bellion.

Who is Bellion?

Despite being recognized as the most powerful shadow in the Solo Leveling universe, Bellion first appears in the narrative during the final arc. He is introduced in chapter #167 of the manhwa, where he arrives alongside a formidable army through an airborne gate to confront Jinwoo just before the climactic battle. This moment follows Jinwoo’s victory over the Beast, Frost, and Plague Monarchs, marking his full embrace of the Shadow Monarch’s expansive powers.

What sets Bellion apart is that he was not summoned by Jinwoo. Instead, he fought valiantly alongside Ashborn, the previous Shadow Monarch, before the System’s deletion enabled Jinwoo’s mastery of his powers. Having remained loyal to Ashborn throughout the ages, Bellion’s commitment does not waver as he recognizes Jinwoo as his successor, forming a touching connection when he perceives his former leader’s spirit in Jinwoo, thus validating Ashborn’s choice.

Bellion’s combat prowess is unrivaled among Jinwoo’s shadow army, as demonstrated in a notable training match against Beru while preparing for the impending battle. Although Bellion typically maintains a serious demeanor, the moments of levity shared during their interactions, such as the construction of a castle for Jinwoo, showcase the camaraderie within the ranks.

In Solo Leveling, shadows are categorized according to their abilities, akin to the Hunters within the series. Jinwoo’s basic soldiers typically hold an Elite or Knight grade, embodying the combined strength of B-Rank and A-Rank Hunters. The Elite Knight rank represents a significant step forward, matching the capabilities of average S-Rank Hunters. Beyond these lie the Generals, equivalent to top-tier S-Ranks, and the Commanders or Marshals, representing the elite among shadows.

Within this top tier are three notable shadows: Beru, Igris, and Tusk, but there remains a unique classification that designates the strongest among them. Bellion holds the distinguished title of Grand Marshal, a fact that initially displeased Beru. His colossal stature, formidable strength, incredible speed, and distinctive whip technique render him an asset that no one else in Jinwoo’s army can match, providing both seriousness and humor in their interactions.

As fans delve into the manhwa’s deeper narrative, they can look forward to encountering characters who will be pivotal in future developments, including Jinwoo’s mightiest shadow soldier. The highly anticipated Season Three promises to unveil some of the series’ most significant mysteries, and fans should stay vigilant for updates concerning its return.
