“I Spent Hours Crying Last Night” — Jack Dodge of The Amazing Race Shares His Emotional Reaction to Team’s Victory

The highly anticipated finale of The Amazing Race Season 37, titled We’re in Miami Baby!, aired on CBS on May 15. Among the final contenders were three dynamic teams competing for the prestigious title. Ultimately, it was the duo of Carson McCalley and Jack Dodge who emerged victorious, enchanting fans with their performance.

Reflections on Victory: Carson and Jack’s Emotional Journey

In an exclusive interview with TV Line published on May 16, Jack expressed his amazement at their win, describing the experience as “insane.”He conveyed his heartfelt appreciation for all the support they received from the The Amazing Race community.

“It’s been insane. I spent hours last night crying, mostly for good reasons, of just being overwhelmed by all the love that was in the room with us last night, and the releasing of a big secret that we’ve had. It’s been the most insane and amazing 48 hours.”

The finale brought fierce competition, as the three teams—Han and Holden, Jonathan and Ana, alongside Carson and Jack—traveled to Miami. They faced an array of challenges, including a lifeguard rescue, a sailing obstacle course, and a thrilling hydroflight experience, before encountering one of the franchise’s most complex puzzles.

As they successfully completed the puzzle, Carson and Jack surged ahead, crossing the finish line first and securing their status as champions.

Bittersweet Triumph Amidst Celebration

“It feels good! It feels all sorts of things. Obviously, we are so excited and happy. It’s just cloud nine, but also there’s a sadness that it’s over.”

Despite their jubilant victory, Carson noted a sense of bittersweetness at the conclusion of their remarkable journey. He expressed appreciation for the experience, stating:

“The people in our lives who haven’t known this about us for a year, finally they’re catching up to a part of ourselves that we’ve known about for a year. There’s just all sorts of emotions, but overwhelmingly, gratitude.”

Adding depth to their reflections, the interview acknowledged a prior discussion with host Phil Keoghan, who had highlighted the importance of enjoying the experience. He specifically mentioned Carson and Jack as exemplary of this attitude.

Maintaining Positivity Through Challenges

When questioned about their ability to remain upbeat throughout the race, Carson attributed their stability to participating in therapy together prior to the competition. This essential practice helped them navigate the pressures of the race more effectively.

“I think also learning to release the expectation from the other person. If I’m in a time of stress, your instinct might be, “Well, I need Carson to then hype me up.” But actually, no, it’s my responsibility to self-soothe because if we’re both doing our best to make sure that we’re OK individually, we’re gonna be putting our best self [forward] for the other person.”

This shared commitment to mental health not only strengthened their friendship but also contributed significantly to their positive outlook during the race, showcasing the vital role of self-care and personal responsibility in achieving success.

The episodes of The Amazing Race Season 37 were broadcast every Wednesday on CBS, captivating audiences with thrilling adventures and heartfelt moments.
