The premier episode of Rhythm + Flow Italy season 2 kicked off with a pivotal meeting among judges Fabri Fibra, Geolier, and Rose Villain. Before the audition rounds began, the judges reflected on the previous season, aiming to refine the experience based on audience feedback.
Rose Villain expressed a strong wish to find a talented winner who embodies originality and can represent Italian music on a global stage. In contrast, Fabri Fibra emphasized the desire to challenge the entrenched stereotypes that often characterize Italian hip-hop. The conversation took a deeper turn as they discussed the valuable insights gathered from the audience responses to the show’s inaugural season.
Fibra mentioned, “I received a ton of feedback about the first season of the show, both positive and not so much,”highlighting that many industry peers were involved in critiquing the show’s debut.
Addressing different opinions, Geolier noted that some viewers believed other contestants deserved to win, prompting a lighthearted response from Rose Villain, who quipped that they would gladly welcome those rappers onto their team. Geolier hoped that constructive criticism would inspire improved performances from newcomers, while Rose emphasized the essential role of nurturing contestants to unlock their fullest potential.
Highlights from the Premiere Episode
In a vibrant exploration of Turin’s freestyling scene, Fabri Fibra joined forces with Willie Peyote, who introduced him to talented local rappers Kiki, Cuta, and True Skill. Cuta revealed his commitment to mentoring children as a means to support himself, while True Skill balanced his passion for rap with academia, stating, “I’m finishing a Master’s in Publishing right now. So, I’m basically the black sheep in this situation.”
Impressed by the dedication displayed by the trio, Fabri Fibra scheduled to deliberate over their performances before announcing who would advance to Milan for the next phase. Only one would receive this coveted opportunity.
Meanwhile, Rose Villain traveled to London to collaborate with Sick Luke, seeking candidates who could break the borders of the Italian music scene. They met two dynamic Italian talents, Lina Simons and El3ven, both of whom had relocated to London. Unlike Fabri, Rose opted for a more intimate setting for their performances, which led to a tough decision between the two artists.
Ultimately, Lina was chosen to move forward, while El3ven received constructive feedback aimed at encouraging him to take bigger risks with his artistry. Following this, Sick Luke introduced another artist, Nox, who showcased a unique style that blended aggressive rap with melodic elements.
Initially uncertain about how Nox’s distinct approach would be perceived, Rose Villain quickly came to recognize his potential, stating, “I don’t care about what any of those people think. ‘Cause I think that you [Nox] are exactly what I’m looking for.”
In southern Italy, Geolier teamed up with his friend Luche to tap into local talent, recalling that it was in this region where they had previously discovered last season’s champion, Kid Lost. They were introduced to two promising rappers, Kid Carter and Nachelo, who performed for Geolier aboard a yacht cruising the Ionian Sea.
Geolier praised both rappers for their strong technical skills but ultimately chose Nachelo, citing his unique musical identity as a deciding factor.
