Warning: Spoilers for S.W.A.T. Season 8, Episode 16 Ahead
As we approach the conclusion of S.W.A.T., it’s apparent that character-driven episodes are becoming rare. The latest installment, Season 8, Episode 16, may be the final one focusing on Miko, offering fans an exciting glimpse into his problem-solving abilities. However, the episode left a critical aspect unaddressed, leaving viewers longing for further character development before the series wraps up.
Miko (Niko Pepaj) was introduced in Season 6 and quickly established himself as a dynamic character. By Season 8, he became a permanent fixture within the 20-Squad after showcasing his skills throughout Season 7. While his youthful exuberance often lends itself to comedic moments, the show has successfully portrayed his growth. Yet, with no confirmed Season 9, it feels as though his arc may remain incomplete.
Miko Faces Missed Opportunities in S.W.A.T. Season 8, Episode 16
Devin Saves the Day When Miko Should Have Taken Charge

The episode kicks off with Miko seeking Deacon’s (Jay Harrington) assistance in changing plans to accommodate his mom’s birthday, which he has always made time for. He attempts to arrange a Saturday meet-up with Nicole (Tory Trowbridge), Deacon’s sister and his babysitter, who has a friend visiting. However, Miko finds himself stuck, unable to work around the scheduling conflict.
Instead of addressing the situation directly with Nicole, Miko embarks on a mission to juggle his commitments, hoping not to disappoint either woman in his life. Although he confides in Devin, his inability to communicate openly with Nicole showcases a lack of maturity in his romantic engagement, which detracts from his character development.
Ultimately, Devin steps in to offer a solution, asking for nothing in return. While her intuition about the importance of the two women in Miko’s life is commendable, it underscores the missed opportunity for Miko to navigate his challenges independently. He continues to rely on others to resolve his issues, stunting his personal growth.
How Nicole Could Have Positively Impacted Miko’s Character Arc
Miko Shows Commitment Potential

Everyone fears letting down their loved ones; however, Miko’s willingness to be upfront with Nicole—even at the risk of disappointing her—could have significantly solidified their relationship as the series nears its end. Devin aptly points out that honesty could improve Miko’s standing and demonstrate his maturity. The genuine reasons for his commitment to his mother highlight the depth of his character.
His dedication to celebrating his mom’s birthday signifies the type of loyal partner Miko aspires to be, contrasting with past men in her life who have failed her. This character trait could signal to Nicole that he values his commitments and is likely to prioritize her on future special occasions. Such a portrayal would have allowed the audience to witness Miko evolving into a more rounded individual.
Sadly, S.W.A.T. missed an opportunity to demonstrate Miko’s growth in this pivotal episode. With luck, fans will see a final Miko-centric storyline to showcase his development through honest communication and his ability to tackle challenges more independently.
