Since its release in 2017, Hollow Knight by Team Cherry has captivated players, becoming a standout title in the indie gaming scene. The game’s engrossing world and unique gameplay have left many fans eagerly awaiting its sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong. After several delays, exciting news was unveiled during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct event on April 2, 2025: the game is set to launch this year.
However, the announcement sparked concerns among fans regarding its availability on the original Nintendo Switch. Fortunately, Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry’s marketing and publishing representative, confirmed via X that Hollow Knight: Silksong will indeed be accessible on the original Nintendo Switch. Still, many gamers have voiced additional questions and concerns following this update.
Recent announcements from Nintendo revealed plans for increased game pricing on the Switch 2, with prices expected to hover around $80. This news left the community both perplexed and disappointed. User @Tony_Laranjo raised a critical query in response to Griffin’s tweet:
“Will they be same price regardless of Switch or Switch 2?”
Meanwhile, skepticism regarding the announced 2025 release window surfaced from fans, particularly following prior delays. Another user, @Lebruh__, expressed his concerns:
“Can you confirm the 2025 release window? Many of us are still hurt from the 2023 window from the Xbox showcase, so an official confirmation from a Team Cherry team member would go a long way!”
Adding to this sentiment, user @_tonezone humorously remarked:
“Is it? I’ve had three employers, bought a house, and had a kid since Silksong was announced. Literally. (can’t wait)”
Despite these mixed feelings, excitement remains palpable within sections of the fanbase. User @itzyorboi expressed relief:
“Thank God! I was worried I would have to buy a whole new system to just play a game.”
Similarly, another fan, @TalenReion, shared:
“I was actually really worried about this; I want to play Silksong but I don’t want to have to grab a Switch 2 just to play it since I have an OLED already.”
Cross-Platform Availability of Hollow Knight: Silksong

In addition to its release on Nintendo platforms, Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available on several other systems. Players can also look forward to playing it on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, with the added benefit of being accessible on Xbox Game Pass at launch, making it easier for gamers to dive into the adventure without the need for a new console.
While Team Cherry had previously indicated plans for releases on older consoles like PS4 and Xbox One, there has yet to be an official update confirming this. Enthusiasts will need to stay tuned for further announcements as the release date approaches.
