Many fans are eagerly anticipating Edi Patterson’s potential return as Heather in the upcoming Resident Alien season 4. However, significant developments in season 3 present challenges for her reunion with Alan Tudyk’s character, Harry Vanderspeigle. Patterson’s portrayal has left a remarkable impression on viewers, even with her limited appearances this past season. It is my sincere hope that Heather can find her way back into the storyline after her untimely departure from Earth.
As season 3 concluded, Harry and his friends faced pressing issues beyond Heather’s exit and the ending of her romantic involvement with the main character. Having appeared in just 4 out of the 8 episodes of the season, Heather’s immediate narrative arc seems completed. Nevertheless, there remains a possibility for her character to return in the series’ next installment, albeit contingent on the downfall of a sinister group of villains.
Challenges for Heather’s Return in Resident Alien Season 4
The Greys’ Hostage Tactics

In season 3, Joseph Rainer, played by Enver Gjokaj, coerces Heather into betraying Harry by harvesting his DNA for the Greys’ malevolent agenda. Their goal is to manipulate Earth’s environment for their own survival, while making it inhospitable for humans. In a bid to secure her compliance, the Greys capture Heather’s family members and threaten their safety if she refuses to cooperate. Despite her compliance, her loved ones remain at risk, as she is explicitly warned against returning to Earth to protect them. Therefore, her reappearance in the storyline hinges on the downfall of the Greys.
The introduction of human/Grey hybrids complicates the situation further, establishing a permanent presence of Greys on Earth.
Since its premiere in 2021, Resident Alien has slowly unveiled the threat posed by the Grey aliens, establishing them as a formidable adversary. While previously viewed as minor nuisances, their growing power and influence make them a significant threat that the protagonists must confront.
Potential Pathways for Heather’s Return
Joseph’s Shift in Allegiance

In a surprising turn of events, Joseph ultimately turns against the Greys towards the end of season 3, realizing that their plan jeopardizes his life as well. This twist offers him a chance to assist the protagonists without exposing his prior duplicity. Even if his treachery were to be discovered, Joseph possesses valuable insights into the Greys’ operations and could prove to be crucial in orchestrating a rescue for Heather’s family, potentially setting the stage for her return in Resident Alien season 4.
