Warning! Spoilers for the finale of 1923!
Julia Schlaepfer Reflects on Working with Harrison Ford
Julia Schlaepfer, known for her role in the hit series 1923, recently shared insights about her on-screen partnership with acting legend Harrison Ford. This conversation came in the wake of the intense Season 2 finale, where their characters, Alex and Jacob, endure a harrowing experience. A part of the popular neo-Western Yellowstone franchise, 1923 premiered on Paramount on December 18, 2022, and wrapped up its storyline on April 6, 2023, with a gripping conclusion that left audiences surprised.
In a revealing interview with ScreenRant, Schlaepfer described the emotional toll of filming their memorable scene. During the finale, which tragically led to several beloved characters’ fates—including Alex’s—Schlaepfer’s first scene with Ford was particularly striking; it depicted the raw intensity of childbirth amidst debilitating frostbite and hypothermia. This experience left her feeling drained, both physically and emotionally, but Ford was there to support her throughout the ordeal.
ScreenRant: I’m so sad Alex never got to meet Aunt Cara, but you did get to share a significant scene with Uncle Jacob. Can you talk about working with Harrison Ford while processing Alex’s tragic circumstances?
Schlaepfer: I was heartbroken that she didn’t get to meet Cara as well; I think they just would’ve hit it off. And Helen Mirren, of course, I would follow that woman anywhere. But Harrison is so special. He leads our set in the most effortless way, and he just leaves so much space for everyone on the crew. The first scene I filmed with him was my birthing scene. I was just so exhausted and traumatized from the season, and he just wanted to make sure I was okay. He just took care of me – and of Alex – in his fatherly Jacob Dutton way. And it’s so fun because their rapport is so cheeky that like a different version of her and Spencer. It just to me is confirmation that she would’ve hit it off with that whole family, and I think she would’ve fit right in. It is a tragedy that we don’t get to see that version of the story, but boy, were those scenes so fun to film with Harrison. It’ll be the highlight of my career, probably forever.
