In the challenging world of Atomfall (distinct from the British Fallout series), tools play a crucial role in navigating the hostile terrain of post-apocalyptic Britain. Among these essential items is the Torch (or Flashlight), which enhances visibility in the game’s many dimly lit areas. Your journey will likely lead you to the Metal Detector next, a tool that alerts players to hidden treasures buried nearby—a significant advantage when resources are scarce early in the game.
The Metal Detector is straightforward to acquire; it simply requires you to know its location and evade any lurking piranhas. Securing this tool early can significantly boost your loot collection, as it opens up new opportunities to uncover valuable items—crafting recipes included! Remember, the sooner you gain access to the Metal Detector, the more loot you’ll amass.
Where To Find The Metal Detector
It’s Closer Than You Think

The Metal Detector can be snagged soon after you exit the starting Bunker. Head northeast to the pond located at coordinates 29.1E 73.9N in Slatten Dale. Here, you will spot a corpse lying in the water next to the Metal Detector. Keep an eye out for piranhas; it’s prudent to stay out of the water as you approach the spot. While you can loot the corpse, don’t expect anything remarkable from it.
How To Use The Metal Detector
No Need To Equip It, Thankfully

The Metal Detector features a user-friendly design, allowing players to detect nearby treasure without the need for equipping the tool. As you explore, watch for the Detector icon that will appear in the bottom left corner of your screen when treasure is nearby. At that point, equip the Metal Detector and continue walking to maintain the red light’s glow. If the left or right lights start blinking, adjust your direction accordingly.
Upon reaching the location of a buried cache, you can start digging to uncover various useful items, including ammunition and other valuable gear. Considering that ammo is a precious commodity in Atomfall, every little bit you can find will serve as a significant boost to your arsenal. While melee options exist, having a reliable gun makes engaging enemies much safer, solidifying the Metal Detector as an indispensable tool during your adventures.
