Gigi, Creator of Roblox Hit ‘Dress to Impress,’ Caught in Major Controversy

The developer behind Roblox’s immensely popular game, Dress to Impress, finds herself at the center of a significant controversy.

Dress to Impress ranks among the top games on Roblox, where players enter a lobby with others and have just over five minutes to craft an outfit that aligns with a specified theme. Once the timer ends, the creations strut down a runway, and participants can award ratings from one to five stars. The three highest-rated outfits are showcased on a podium before a new round begins.

As Dress to Impress gained traction, so did public interest in its creator, Gigi. However, her standing has suffered following a series of serious accusations against her.

Accusations Against ‘Dress to Impress’ Creator Gigi

The allegations surfaced when Sara, the mind behind the game It Girl, initiated a thread on X (formerly Twitter) aimed at exposing Gigi’s behavior. A key claim was that Gigi attempted to spread a false rumor insinuating that Sara was a rapist. This was allegedly motivated by Gigi’s frustration over Sara’s game mimicking Dress to Impress and the criticism it had received online.

Gigi also supposedly considered making a DMCA claim against It Girl for alleged copying of Dress to Impress. Nevertheless, Sara insisted that her inspiration stemmed from various Roblox titles instead. She further criticized Gigi for failing to mitigate harassment directed at her and It Girl.

Sara also accused Gigi of engaging in body shaming. Witnesses shared that a photo circulating among Gigi and her team portrayed someone they mistakenly believed to be Sara and mocked her physical appearance, jokingly suggesting she might “break the floor.”Allegedly, Gigi deleted the chats containing these remarks.

Following Sara’s allegations, multiple others have come forward with their own claims regarding Gigi.

Another Roblox game developer, Jenn, shared their own account of collaborating with Gigi on Jenn’s Mansion. One of the serious allegations was that Gigi contacted a Jenn’s Mansion player seeking explicit photos in exchange for access to an unseen update, misleadingly claiming to be 19 while that individual was approximately 14 to 16 years old at the time.

Rumors later suggested Gigi was involved with—or possibly owned—an NSFW server populated by minors where explicit material was allegedly shared. This server was also purportedly utilized for the exchange of nude images, while many participants were underage. Jenn provided documentation of messages where Gigi behaved inappropriately and made sexual remarks toward her.

Additional allegations claimed Gigi exhibited racist behavior by sharing derogatory images of people of color. When confronted, Gigi allegedly asserted that her North African heritage excused her actions, insisting she could not be racist.

Moreover, Gigi faced accusations of exploiting and hacking the now-defunct Roblox game, Fashion Dolls. This act allegedly facilitated the game’s closure. Others suspect Gigi may have been part of a server that initiated the hacking; while direct involvement is disputed, it’s said she mocked the game’s shutdown.

In addition, Jenn accused Gigi of replicating Jenn’s Mansion’s dress-up functionalities for her own endeavors. Allegedly, Gigi appropriated several former developers from Jenn’s Mansion to contribute to Dress to Impress. A fellow Roblox creator also alleged that Gigi plagiarized the runway idea from their project, despite working under their umbrella. Even while borrowing elements from others, Gigi was reportedly critical of other creators’ 3D artwork and designs.

While employed as a scripter for Jenn’s Mansion, Gigi reportedly caused data errors, resulting in players losing their items.

Gigi Addresses Allegations Linked to ‘Dress to Impress’

In response to the accusations, Gigi posted a link to a Google Doc on her X account. In the document, she expressed her remorse for the harm she caused and emphasized her commitment to improvement. She clarified that she was only 14 during most of the incidents discussed online and is now 17, suggesting the allegations may not relate to recent events.

Gigi admitted to making a rape joke aimed at Sara and expressed regret for those remarks. However, she asserted that she never engaged in fat-shaming Sara and denied circulating photos of her. Gigi claimed that Sara initiated the criticism of Dress to Impress, prompting her offensive response, yet she acknowledged that she had made fatphobic jokes in the past and apologized for those as well.

She addressed the concerns about the NSFW server, insisting that no explicit images featuring minors were shared and denied ever purchasing nude content from underage individuals. Gigi also dismissed allegations of racism, stating that any jokes made were about her own racial identity.

As of the time of writing this article, Gigi has not provided further commentary on the situation.
