The Chronicler of the Crumbling City quest series debuted in the Genshin Impact 5.5 update, immersing players in a narrative that explores an ancient dragon civilization hidden beneath the imposing Great Volcano of Tollan.
The penultimate quest in this series, titled The End of the Road, requires players to progress through the initial quest called In Search of a Hidden Heart and complete four associated sub-quests. Only upon fulfilling these prerequisites will you gain access to this significant quest.
Unlocking The End of the Road Quest
As noted, accessing The End of the Road involves obtaining critical items: the Permit to the Sacred Heart and three Phlogiston Units. These items are rewards for completing the following sub-quests:
- Once, the Sacred Seat of Judgement
- Where Once There Was a Calculation Array
- Where Once Force Was Reversed
- Where Once There Were Arms Aplenty
After finishing Once, the Sacred Seat of Judgement, you will receive the Permit, while the completion of the other quests will yield the Phlogiston Units you need. Upon accomplishing Where Once There Were Arms Aplenty, the quest The End of the Road will trigger, making its location visible on your map.
Walkthrough for The End of the Road Quest
To reach the quest area for The End of the Road, navigate southeast from the Ruined Armament Workshop located in the Ancient Sacred Mountain.
Upon your arrival, you’ll encounter a dormant Secret Source Dragon Idol which hinders progression to the concluding portion of the Chronicler of the Crumbling City series.
Interact with the idol and provide both the Permit to the Sacred Heart and the three Phlogiston Units. This action will animate the idol, opening a pathway to a dark cave below the Ancient Sacred Mountain.
Before diving into the newly revealed pit, make use of the Qucusaur Spiritsconce to transform into a Qucusaur for a safe descent. While gliding down, you’ll also spot a Pyroculus.
At the base of the cave lies the entrance to the Heart of the Sacred Mountain. Entering this area signifies the successful completion of The End of the Road quest, as well as the overarching quest In Search of a Hidden Heart.
Rewards for Completing The End of the Road
Upon successfully finishing this quest, you will be rewarded with:
- 70 Primogems
- 70,500 Mora
- 4 Mystic Enhancement Ore
- 4 Hero’s Wit
Arriving at the Heart of the Sacred Mountain will automatically initiate As the Burning Sun Sears Shadows, the final quest in the Chronicler of the Crumbling City series, paving the way for further explorations in Genshin Impact.
