For an extended period, gold has served as the primary currency in Fortnite Battle Royale. Initially, during the first chapter of the game, players utilized building materials like wood, brick, and metal to buy essential items from vending machines. However, the game has evolved, and now gold is mainly used for procuring weapons and items through Black Markets, vending machines, and NPCs.
In a surprising twist introduced in Chapter 6 Season 2, Epic Games presented players with a new currency called Dill Bits. While acquiring Dill Bits can pose a challenge, the rewards are substantial, as they offer significant advantages within the game. This guide is designed to provide players with comprehensive information about Dill Bits, including their acquisition and usage.
Updated on April 9, 2025, by Ashley Claudino: Due to feedback from the community regarding the scarcity of Dill Bits, Epic Games has released new methods for players to earn this currency. Previously, Black Markets offered various Mythic weapons available exclusively for Dill Bits, but there were limited opportunities to gather enough resources for multiple purchases. The locations for obtaining Dill Bits were also limited and high-risk, resulting in only a small percentage of players benefiting. In response, Epic Games has adjusted the gameplay to make finding Dill Bits more accessible, which is reflected in the updates of this guide.
How to Obtain Dill Bits in Fortnite

Players can collect Dill Bits through two primary methods: exploring vaults or destroying Dill Bit Mining Servers.
Exploring Vaults
Vaults are distributed across various locations, including Crime City, Seaport City, Masked Meadows, and Lonewolf Lair. Additionally, players can find a vault on the train that circulates the map, which contains two Dill Bits.
It’s important to note that while Armored Trucks feature vault doors, they do not contain Dill Bits. Players must first obtain Thermite, which spawns frequently as floor loot or within chests, to weaken the vault door. By applying Thermite to the door and hitting its weak spots, players can expedite the weakening process.
A progress meter displayed at the top of the screen will indicate how close players are to breaking the vault door open. Once the meter is full, players can enter the vault to claim their loot, including the coveted Dill Bits.
Dill Bit Mining Servers

Introduced as a more recent gameplay element, Dill Bit Mining Servers simplify the process of acquiring Dill Bits. There are three established mining server locations situated within the gold-rich biome on the map’s western side:
- Mine Entrance 11: Found on the western slope of the tall green mountain, southwest of Predator Peak.
- Mine Entrances 6 and 7: Located south of Outlaw Oasis and east of Yokina Boardwalk.
- Mine Entrance 9: West of Foxy Floodgate and east of Crime City.
To extract Dill Bits from a mining server, players should use their pickaxe to hit the server; if a Dill Bit doesn’t appear, continue breaking the surrounding infrastructure. Players can typically harvest up to 2 Dill Bits from each mining server room.

Purpose of Dill Bits

A key difference between Dill Bits and gold is that players cannot carry over Dill Bits into subsequent matches. At the end of each game, any accumulated Dill Bits reset to zero for the next match, compelling players to spend their Dill Bits promptly.
To spend Dill Bits, players must visit one of the three Black Market locations available in Fortnite. Each market features a distinct selection of items and weapons. Some items can be purchased with gold, while others are exclusive to Dill Bits. Below is a table detailing the items purchasable with Dill Bits in each respective Black Market:
Black Market Location | Magic Mosses | Crime City | Masked Meadows/Seaport City |

Regardless of their rarity or type, all items available in Black Markets require just 1 Dill Bit for purchase.
