Excitement Builds for Paramount’s Upcoming Naked Gun Reboot
This year is shaping up to be remarkable, especially with the release of the first teaser trailer for Paramount’s highly anticipated Naked Gun movie.
Just before taking the stage at its CinemaCon presentation on Thursday, the studio unveiled the teaser video, which was met with hearty laughter and enthusiastic applause from the audience as additional footage was screened.
A New Take on a Classic Franchise
The reboot introduces Liam Neeson in the iconic role of Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the original franchise’s beloved character, Frank Drebin, famously portrayed by the late Leslie Nielsen.
The sneak peek hints at a familiar comedic tone designed to resonate with longtime fans, including a particularly outrageous moment where Neeson uses a dismembered arm to subdue an opponent. Additionally, scenes associated with sexual innuendo involving Neeson and Pamela Anderson’s character appear to subvert expectations, promising a fresh take on classic humor.
Notable Cameos and Quirky Humor
Fans will also appreciate a callback to the original series with a nod to the character Nordberg, famously played by O.J. Simpson. In a humorous exchange, Neeson interrogates a character portrayed by Busta Rhymes, quipping, “It says you’ve served 20 years for man’s laughter. Must have been quite the joke.”
The teaser showcases Neeson’s character delivering the memorable line, “Nobody messes with Police Squad,” setting the tone for this hilarious reboot.
Release Details and Creative Team
The Naked Gun reboot is slated to hit theaters on August 1, 2025. The film is directed by Akiva Schaffer and produced by notable names such as Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins. Neeson steps into the shoes of Nielsen, who initially brought the franchise to life with the first film in 1988.
The cast features an exciting ensemble, including Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, Liza Koshy, Cody Runnels, and CCH Pounder.
The screenplay has been crafted by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who previously collaborated with Schaffer on the Emmy-winning Disney+ project, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.
