The dystopian landscape of Atomfall stems from perilous experiments centered around a mysterious substance named Oberon. Among the key figures involved in this dark saga is Dr. Holder, a scientist who has taken refuge near The Interchange, hoping for assistance in his dire situation.
As luck would have it, you enter the zone just in time. Dr. Holder proposes to guide you out, but first, he requires an essential item known as Sample One, a fragment of Oberon. To acquire this sample, you must venture deep into the Medical department of The Interchange and confront the infected foes lurking within.
Gaining Access to the Medical Department in Atomfall
To access the Medical wing of The Interchange, you must first restore power from the Central Processor Room. Look for directional signs guiding you to this location. Once inside, insert an Atomic Battery into the Bootstrap System Terminal to activate the electricity.
This will enable you to power up four Data Stores one by one. For instance, activating Data Store Charlie unlocks a door that leads you to a lower level of The Interchange. Traverse this area, pass through a set of yellow doors, ascend the stairs, and turn left to open the quarantine shutter, which leads directly into the Medical department.
Once inside, exercise caution. Dreaded enemies known as Thralls await, capable of inflicting significant damage and causing infection build-up. It’s best to engage them remotely with a rifle or pistol. If they close in, prepare your shotgun for a desperate defense.
Explore the Medical department to uncover documents detailing the experiments that transpired here. Among these notes, you’ll discover the name of Dr. Holder, who previously investigated samples of Oberon. From the Main Reception area, proceed past the Pneumatic Tube, taking an immediate right into a nook containing an audio log titled “Holder Is Up To Something.”This log reveals that Dr. Holder is entrenched below St. Katherine’s Church in Wyndham Village, working in a concealed lab situated in the church cellar.
Coincidentally, you will find the Church Cellar Key positioned beside this audio log. With this key in hand, you are now ready to journey to Wyndham Village to locate Dr. Holder.
Locating Dr. Holder in Atomfall
Head to St. Katherine’s Church located at coordinates 33.3 E, 78.0 N in Wyndham Village. Once there, you’ll encounter Vicar McHenry, who will initiate the St. Katherine’s Church Lead quest, involving a murder mystery. For now, ignore him and head downstairs to locate a white wooden door leading to the Forgotten Cellar.
Unlock this door using your key, and an unsettling encounter with Dr. Holder awaits. Noticing his unnaturally blue eyes and skin, you’ll realize he has been affected by Oberon. However, he will explain that he has managed to resist the infection’s effects thanks to an Experimental Inoculation. This inoculation is conveniently available on Holder’s desk and provides the Infection Resistance skill, along with the potential to learn skills related to Radiation Resistance and Healing Boost from the Conditioning skill section.
Engage Dr. Holder in conversation, as he will provide critical information about the quarantine zone’s current state. He will then instruct you to procure Sample One, a purified version of Oberon. In return, he will give you Holder’s Keycard, which grants access to the lower level of the Medical department, where the sample resides.
Acquiring Sample One in Atomfall
To retrieve the sample, crawl through the opening at the bottom. Beware of more Thralls in this area, including one positioned down the left hall. After neutralizing these threats, you’ll encounter a corridor filled with toxic gas; deactivate it by using the Decontamination Controls on the nearby console.
Proceed toward a pair of malfunctioning electric doors. Slip past them and activate the button labeled Systems Power.
Continue down some steps near the sealed Auditorium door to discover a console with a lever labeled ‘Lockdown Control.’ Activate the lever to unlock the Auditorium doors. Inside, you will find a covered corpse emitting blue mist that inflicts damage and causes infection build-up. Next to it lies a sealed cylinder containing Sample One, but caution is advised as another fierce Thrall occupies the area.
