Yugyeom of GOT7 Shares Insights on His Journey and Challenges
On April 9, GOT7’s Yugyeom participated in an enlightening interview with Billboard as part of their Artist Spotlight segment. During the discussion, the K-pop sensation delved into various topics, including his global tour experiences, insights into the K-pop industry, and his burgeoning solo career.
Addressing an audience of students from the University of Southern California, Yugyeom concluded his interview with a heartfelt message. He opened up about his responsibilities as the primary breadwinner for his family, revealing the immense pressure he felt during the pandemic when his income vanished.
Yugyeom candidly recounted how boredom during those challenging times propelled him to collaborate with fellow artists, creating dance routines and music on platforms like SoundCloud. This creative endeavor ultimately paved the way for his signing with AOMG after parting ways with his previous label, JYP Entertainment. Following these revelations, many fans expressed concern over JYP Entertainment’s lack of financial support for their artists.
Fan Reactions and Criticism of JYP Entertainment
The online community reacted strongly to Yugyeom’s statements, highlighting the perceived mishandling of funds by JYP Entertainment. Here are some notable reactions:
“Wtf did jype do to their money??”
“At that time he was only 23, being the breadwinner of his family with no schedule in sight must have been stressful for him. Now I see why he was so quick to find another company,”commented a fan on X.
“Being from a big 3 company whilst not seeing any funds coming in despite having two comebacks within that year is very f*cked…..like VERY f*cked,”added another fan.
“During one of their highest selling album eras? that company is a joke,”commented a netizen.
Many fans continued to voice their displeasure towards JYP Entertainment, criticizing its support—or lack thereof—for its artists:
“And once again this is why my beef with that company will never die,”said a fan.
“Got7 had a sold out world tour in 2019, wtf was JYPE doing with THEIR MONEY,”added another X user.
“Wait. … I don’t understand… was JYPE not paying him???”asked a netizen.
“This actually breaks my heart… They had a successful comeback literally a few months before… Over everything, I am truly grateful they left their company,”commented another X user.
