While horror films often saturate the market, successful adaptations of horror video games are somewhat of a rarity. Nevertheless, one franchise made a notable transition to cinema a few years ago and continues to thrive.
Horror movie adaptations from video games have surprisingly outperformed many expectations at the box office. The original Resident Evil film series spanned six entries, Silent Hill (2006) grossed close to $100 million, and even the poorly received 2005 adaptation of Doom, featuring Karl Urban and Dwayne Johnson, has gained a cult following. Therefore, the success of Emma Tammi’s 2023 adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy’s comes as no surprise: achieved with a modest budget of $20 million, it amassed approximately $300 million globally. The enthusiastic FNAF fanbase is substantial, but did anyone in Hollywood anticipate such a monumental reception?
Blumhouse Productions has finally provided fans with what they have eagerly awaited, and the initial feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. During CinemaCon this week, an avalanche of movie news and trailer debuts has kept excitement high, with the teaser for FNAF2 being the latest highlight. Yes, it’s official: Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 now has its official teaser trailer.
Get Ready for Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 This December

Emma Tammi returns as director for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, much to the delight of fans who will see familiar faces in the principal cast. Josh Hutcherson reprises his role as the main character Mike Schmidt, while Matthew Lillard steps back into the shoes of the notorious villain William Afton. Additionally, Elizabeth Lail returns as Vanessa Shelly, William’s daughter, alongside Piper Rubio, who plays Mike’s younger sister, Abby.
The casting details for the remaining roles have been kept under wraps, but the teaser has hinted at an intriguing inclusion: Wayne Knight. Best known for his roles as Newman in Seinfeld and Officer Orville in 3rd Rock from the Sun, Knight is also remembered for his portrayal of Dennis Nedry in Jurassic Park, noted for a memorable death scene involving a Dilophosaurus—an iconic moment for many ’90s fans.
The teaser for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 continues the series’ tradition of delivering unsettling atmospheres, menacing animatronics, and a compelling performance from Hutcherson. Fans are eagerly hoping for additional classic horror actors to join the cast. With Matthew Lillard and Wayne Knight already involved, imagine the excitement if actors from I Know What You Did Last Summer, Tremors, or The Blair Witch Project were to join the ensemble!
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on December 5, 2025.
