Escape from Tarkov Developers Discuss Potential Console Port

Overview

  • The Chief Operating Officer of Battlestate Games, Nikita Buyanov, has indicated that Escape from Tarkov will not be available on consoles.
  • The anticipated 1.0 edition of this popular extraction shooter is set for release in late 2025, marking more than eight years since its beta introduction.

In a rather humorous update, a high-ranking official from Battlestate Games announced that while Escape from Tarkov has no plans for a console release, it may release on a Game Boy first, reinforcing that console gamers should not expect a port anytime soon.

This July 27 will commemorate the eighth anniversary of Escape from Tarkov‘s beta launch. After persistently adding content and enhancing gameplay, the full version of the game is now targeted for a late 2025 rollout.

With the imminent version 1.0 on the horizon, fans have speculated about the potential for a console adaptation. However, according to Buyanov, these speculations remain just that—speculations. During a recent episode of the Tarkov TV broadcast, he joked about a console version being possible “someday,”but humorously stated it would come after a Game Boy release.

Changing Perspectives: Battlestate’s Initial Interest in Console Ports

Buyanov’s jest underscores a significant shift from previous attitudes within Battlestate regarding a console version of their flagship title. In a 2020 interview, former developer Pavel Dyatlov expressed optimism about eventually launching a console adaptation, conditional upon the game’s initial Steam release, which remains unfulfilled even five years later. Buyanov has reiterated that a Steam launch will likely not happen until the game transitions to 1.0.

While the idea of a console version of this acclaimed game appears to be off the table for now, development on the highly-anticipated version 1.0 is progressing steadily. A recent roadmap has revealed plans to complete the beta phase by the end of 2025, following the expected release of the 0.16.9.0 patch in August. This timeline suggests that players could finally see a formal launch sometime in the fourth quarter.

Looking ahead, the next patch, version 0.16.6.0, is scheduled for release in May 2025. This update is expected to include various enhancements, such as adjustments to AI behavior, balancing changes, and improvements to the Lighthouse map. Additionally, audio enhancements for the Shoreline map and a new in-game event are also on the agenda.
