Entertainment Squad Acquires LGBTQ+ Romantic Comedy ‘Play It Again’ for PrideFlix (Exclusive)

Entertainment Squad Launches First Feature Adaptation Under PrideFlix

Entertainment Squad, an indie distribution company, has officially begun the production of its first feature adaptation, Play It Again, under the newly acquired PrideFlix label. This LGBTQ+ romantic comedy, helmed by director Dan Abramovici, known for his work on Ben’s at Home, is being crafted in collaboration with producers Kate Forrest and Myrthin Stagg from Stagg Forrest Films. The project also boasts executive producers David J. Phillips, recognized for Eat Wheaties!, and Shaked Berenson, the founder of Entertainment Squad and director of Slaxx.

A Unique Narrative with Universal Themes

As described in the official synopsis, Play It Again follows the journey of a daydreamer who delights in Hollywood-inspired fantasies. The plot centers around her struggle to express her love for her best friend during a family gathering. This feature-length adaptation is set to delve deeper into themes of missed chances, unexpressed feelings, and the unpredictability of relationships, all within the framework of a contemporary, genre-blending rom-com.

Industry Insights from the Creators

Kate Forrest and Myrthin Stagg expressed their enthusiasm about the project: “Play It Again serves as a heartfelt celebration of romantic comedies, infused with humor, poignancy, and a sprinkle of nostalgia. It’s designed to evoke laughter, inspire tears, and encourage audiences to root for the chaotic yet beautiful aspects of love. We believe there is a significant audience craving original, unpredictable rom-coms, and this film caters to that growing demand with a fresh self-aware perspective.”

David J. Phillips added further insight, stating, “This film combines unique quirkiness with nods to classic Hollywood while showcasing relatable characters grappling with the universal challenges of relationships. The commercial potential is robust, appealing not only to LGBTQ+ viewers but also to a broader audience. The success of films like Love, Simon and Happiest Season highlights a growing appetite for modern, inclusive stories that stand out in the cinematic landscape.”

Commitment to Inclusive Storytelling

Shaked Berenson, CEO of Entertainment Squad, emphasized the vital need for diverse storytelling, stating, “The demand for inclusive narratives has never been greater. With its innovative approach to queer relationships, combining humor with heartfelt drama, Play It Again is perfectly positioned for both specialized LGBTQ+ platforms like PrideFlix and broader mainstream audiences.”

Looking Ahead: Production Status and Future Plans

Currently, Play It Again is in pre-production, aiming for a release in 2026. Casting announcements are anticipated in the near future, creating excitement for what promises to be a memorable addition to the romantic comedy genre.

Earlier this year, Entertainment Squad’s acquisition of PrideFlix reaffirmed its dedication to revitalizing LGBTQ+ content, with the recent appointment of Martin Gallery as Vice President of Sales and Acquisitions, as stated by the company.
