Effective Counter-Attack Strategies in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

In the thrilling world of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, mastering the art of parrying is essential for executing powerful counter-attacks during combat. This latest installment in the AC franchise introduces notable enhancements to its combat mechanics, providing players with a more exhilarating gaming experience. Counter-attacking requires finesse and practice, characterized by a two-stage process that can initially challenge even seasoned players.

The ability to counter-attack hinges on your skillful execution of parries against incoming strikes from enemies. Here are the controls you need to perform a parry on your device:

  • Press LB on an Xbox controller.
  • Press L1 on a PlayStation DualSense controller.
  • Press Q on the keyboard.

Although the parry function resembles the block command in previous Assassin’s Creed games, precise timing is critical. To successfully deflect an attack, you will need to activate your parry right before the enemy’s strike lands. Be aware that attacks indicated by a blue or white glow are parryable, while those marked in red are not.

Upon a successful parry, the game momentarily slows down, signaling an opportunity for you to retaliate. This is represented by the enemy glowing yellow or orange, indicating vulnerability. At this precise moment, you can execute a counter-attack by simply pressing your attack button. This allows you to inflict guaranteed damage, bypassing any chance for the enemy to evade.

Whether you choose to play as Yasuke or Naoe, both characters possess the ability to parry and counter-attack. Timing is crucial, so practice is key, especially with Naoe, who has lower defense. Yasuke’s more robust frame enables him to endure missed parries with less severe repercussions, particularly at lower difficulty levels. However, with Naoe, be cautious—taking hits can deplete your health significantly, especially in challenging modes.

By honing your parrying and counter-attacking skills, you can enhance your gameplay experience in Assassin’s Creed Shadows and overcome even the toughest foes.
