Discontent Among Pokemon GO Players During the Stunning Styles Event: Reasons Explained

On April 3, 2025, Pokémon GO introduced the “Stunning Styles”event, promising players an opportunity to catch various forms of Pocket Monsters. However, the excitement quickly became overshadowed by player disappointment, primarily due to the limited variety of enhanced wild encounters available during the event. Players quickly realized that only two Pokémon had increased spawn rates: Castform and Burmy.

Adding to the frustration, Burmy has been appearing in the wild far more frequently than Castform. This imbalance has been particularly exasperating for trainers eager to complete their collections of all four forms of Castform, including their Shiny variants.

Understanding the Disparity in Spawn Rates during the Event

The primary factor contributing to the overwhelming number of Burmy spawns lies in Castform’s weather-dependent nature. For example, Castform’s Sunny Form can only emerge during sunny conditions, significantly reducing its appearance when the weather does not align favorably. Thus, players often find themselves missing out on Castform altogether if the weather parameters are not met.

Moreover, since there are no other Pokémon with boosted spawn rates alongside Burmy and Castform during the “Stunning Styles”event, many trainers are inundated with Burmy in all its forms. Unlike Castform, Burmy’s spawns are tied to specific locations, making it more prevalent and accessible during this limited-time event.

Interestingly, neither Pokémon has garnered a strong fan following, and the fact that Burmy’s spawn rate surpasses that of Castform has frustrated many players. A case in point is U/Khybera, who shared their experience of walking 7 kilometers over a two-hour span without encountering a single Castform.

Player U/Fizzy voiced similar frustrations, suggesting that other Pokémon with distinct forms, like Shellos, could have been ideal candidates for inclusion in the event, especially given Burmy’s recent prominence.

“It’s kind of annoying that the wild spawns are basically 2 Pokémon, even if they do have several different forms. We just had Burmy spawns too. I don’t know why the ones in one-star raids couldn’t be wild encounters as well, especially Shellos, it’s not like they’re uncommon.”
