Deltarune Features Nintendo Switch 2 Exclusive Content

Overview

  • The eagerly anticipated Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 will be released on June 5, coinciding with the debut of the Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Players will have the unique ability to utilize Joy-Con 2 controllers in a mouse mode specifically within one particular room in the Deltarune game.
  • Recent confirmations about mouse controls for the Switch 2 Joy-Cons indicate a potential for simplified porting of PC games to the console.

Deltarune is set to introduce an exclusive feature for the Nintendo Switch 2. This feature will allow players to use two Joy-Cons in mouse mode within a designated area of the game. While the special dual-mouse controls are limited to a single room, they promise to deliver a unique experience that only the Switch 2 can offer gamers.

After more than three and a half years following the initial PC release of its second chapter, the launch date for Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 was unveiled during Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct presentation on April 2. These chapters will be made available alongside the new console on June 5, and fans can also look forward to releases on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and the original Nintendo Switch on the same date.

The confirmation of Deltarune for the Switch 2’s launch is particularly significant for its solo developer, Toby Fox. In a recent Fangamer newsletter, he highlighted that the Switch 2 variant of the game will feature a specialized room designed for utilizing dual mouse controls with the Joy-Cons. This feature was briefly showcased in a trailer during the Switch 2 Direct, where players can see sprites interacting within this unique space. Although details about which chapter will feature this room remain undisclosed, Fox assured fans that this area will be included in non-Switch 2 versions, albeit with different control systems.

Deltarune Introduces Exclusive Dual-Mouse Functionality for Switch 2

The announcement of the mouse controls for Joy-Con 2 was one of the much-anticipated highlights at the April 2 showcase. Beyond these innovative controls, other enhancements such as magnetic attachment points and larger buttons aim to enhance user experience. This development could signal the onset of a new genre or wave of game styles, diverging from traditional mechanics.

Initially released exclusively on PC with its first chapter debuting on Halloween 2018, Deltarune has since made its way to other platforms including the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. The new mouse functionality on the Switch 2 may simplify the porting process for many PC titles, as noted by developers of Civilization 7 earlier this year who praised the Joy-Con 2’s capabilities.
