Darnell Ferguson Faces Legal Issues After Charges of Assault
Celebrity chef and Tournament of Champions alum Darnell Ferguson recently found himself in legal trouble after a court appearance on May 13, 2025. Initially facing serious allegations, including strangulation and assault against his wife in January 2024, he was at risk of a 30-year prison sentence. However, by pleading guilty to a misdemeanor, Ferguson managed to receive a fine of only $250.
In a report by Parade magazine, Darnell was sentenced to one year for “criminal mischief.”Notably, his jail time was “conditionally discharged for two years,”functionally equivalent to probation. This ruling means as long as he avoids further legal issues during this period, he will not serve time in prison.

The victim reported that she lost consciousness due to the struggle and that Ferguson allegedly attempted to sexually assault her upon regaining consciousness.
Three months post-arrest, Tatahda Ferguson, Darnell’s wife, publicly defended the celebrity chef through a statement released by The Law Office of Dawn R. Elliot, PLLC. She expressed remorse for the incident that occurred on January 2, 2024, acknowledging the couple’s issues but emphasizing their efforts to shield their family from turmoil.
“I reacted in the heat of the moment after we had an intense argument, and called the police for a matter that really didn’t warrant their involvement,”she said.
Tatahda described feeling that her statements were misrepresented by law enforcement, attributing part of the misunderstanding to Ferguson’s celebrity status. She insisted that she had never felt unsafe around him and praised him as a devoted father. Notably, she clarified that there was no burglary involved and that both parties were amicable with visiting one another, asserting that she felt no physical threat during the incident.
“It hurts my heart the way he’s being vilified. I am coming forward to try and do what’s right to clear his name and help our family heal,”she added.
