Could Momoshiki Be Anticipating a Megumi Moment for Boruto in Two Blue Vortex?

Momoshiki Otsutsuki, a pivotal figure in the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga, has seen a marked reduction in his involvement in the follow-up series, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. Despite his significant role in the original storyline, his presence has dwindled, leading to numerous fan theories about his sudden absence.

Having last featured prominently in the concluding chapter of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, he has since only been referenced sporadically in the sequel, lacking any substantive plot development. This has left fans curious, prompting speculation about his absence and potential future moves.

A recent theory posited by YouTuber @Kashy_Kage suggests that Momoshiki’s disappearance may be a strategic choice rooted in the characteristics shared by the Otsutsuki clan. Drawing on a trait of patience that seems synonymous with their lineage, Momoshiki could be biding his time for an opportune moment.

Potential Motives Behind Momoshiki’s Silence

This strategic patience mirrors the story of Isshiki Otsutsuki, who displayed exceptional foresight and long-term planning. Isshiki’s arrival on Earth occurred approximately 1,000 years before the events of Boruto, where he aimed to harvest a Chakra fruit alongside Kaguya Otsutsuki. However, after being betrayed by Kaguya, Isshiki found himself near death, yet he cleverly used his wits to inhabit the body of a monk named Jigen, thus reviving his plans.

Just as Isshiki found a way to manipulate events to his advantage, Momoshiki may be waiting for the right moment to maneuver from the shadows. Following his previous failed attempt to take control of Boruto’s body, he could foresee a future scenario wherein Boruto is at his most vulnerable, primed for a shocking takeover.

The Otsutsukis are known for their trait of enduring patience, often waiting decades or even centuries to see their plans come to fruition. This strategy raises the possibility that Momoshiki is waiting for a moment as dire as the destruction of the Hidden Leaf Village or the loss of Boruto’s loved ones before making his move.

In a similar vein, parallels can be drawn with Ryomen Sukuna from Jujutsu Kaisen. Sukuna waited patiently for the right conditions to switch bodies from Yuji Itadori to Megumi Fushiguro at a moment of despair. Likewise, when Boruto faces a critical low, Momoshiki might pounce, seizing control at a time when the protagonist is least prepared.
