Comprehensive Walkthrough for Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Exploring Chasuriyama Kofun

If you’re on the hunt for impressive gear in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, exploring locations such as the Chasuriyama Kofun is essential. Completing these sites not only offers a distinctive reward chest for your character but also enhances your gaming experience. Despite the potential challenges posed by the regional difficulty, navigating through the Kofun is typically more about your puzzle-solving skills than combat, making it accessible for adventurers at various levels.

Gear plays a pivotal role for the protagonists in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. As you embark on quests to raid castles, tackle complex puzzles, and navigate through multiple Kofun scattered across the map, the upgrades you find can be game-changing. While not every Kofun guarantees legendary equipment, many provide substantial enhancements to your arsenal. Acquiring this gear greatly increases your chances against tougher enemies awaiting you in your journey. However, it’s crucial to first locate and complete the Kofun to reap the rewards they hold.

To gain access to the Chasuriyama Kofun in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, head to the Tamba region, specifically the sub-region of Chasuriyama to the northwest. You should spot a ‘?’ on your map after unlocking a nearby viewpoint.

For easier navigation, I recommend using the Yakami viewpoint near the fort. If it’s not yet unlocked, you can ascend the rocks surrounding the fort to find a gap in the wall leading to the tower with the viewpoint. Once you’re at the top, sneaking up to claim the viewpoint without drawing enemy attention should be a breeze. Afterward, it’s a simple ride over to the Kofun.

For your journey through the Kofun, you will not need any specific weapons. Completing the Kofun requires only that you follow the corridor down to the primary room. Do remember to equip your grappling hook, which necessitates using Naoe during this section.

Exploring the Initial Rooms

Navigating the First Section

The opening section of the Kofun is quite intuitive. Upon reaching the initial large room, head directly across from the coffin and enter the gap in the wall. This leads you into another area where you’ll need to perform an Eagle Dive from a wooden platform into a pool below. Swim towards the light to exit the water.

While exploring the waters, there are no treasures to be found. In fact, in comparison to the Megalithic Vault in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the Chasuriyama Kofun has very limited treasure chests; only the one at the end is notable.

Mastering the Grappling Hook Section

From the pool area, you’ll engage in a series of grappling hook maneuvers as you continue your journey. Should you fall, you can easily return to the beginning of any room to climb back up to the starting platform. In the first room, proceed straight across and leap to the platform before grappling to the end.

In the following area, jump across and venture into a darker passage. You’ll need to go prone to access the next room, which is quite straightforward. Grapple across the room to the nearest platform—look for the white lines on the surrounding rocks to assist your ascent. Drop down once you reach the ledge, and perform another grapple to progress.

Though alternative exits may seem available, you should remain on course and jump onto the rope spanning the next room. After crossing to the second rope, continue forward into a long hallway.

Completing the Kofun

Wrapping Up Your Exploration

The hallway you enter contains the only other treasure chest within the Kofun. Once you make your way in, look to your right for a hole in the wall that allows you to crawl through. Inside, I discovered a Rare Kanabo, the Immortal Kanabo of Wounding.

After retrieving your reward, return to the hallway and proceed to the end where you’ll find another gap in the wall to squeeze through. Next, you will need to jump from island to island until you reach the far side of the room. You must climb the highest platform upon reaching it, stand on the wooden ledge, and swing your grappling hook to get to the opposite side.

Make another swing with your grapple and climb where you’ll spot a box adorned with the Assassin’s logo on a rock. If you’re entering the Kofun without prior knowledge, it won’t activate anything. You must first accept the side quest titled A Blade In The Dark for further context.

Final Steps and Rewards

Navigating the Last Rooms and Finding the Exit

From the box, head towards the lit candle on the opposite side of the room where you will find yet another gap to crawl through. Climb up the wall on the far side to enter another long hallway that leads straight to the treasure chest at the end.

Your rewards for this adventure are:

  • Scarlet Fate (Legendary Tanto)
  • Impactful Attacks (Legendary Engraving)

In addition to the treasure, completing the Kofun earns you a Knowledge Point and 2200 XP, providing a nice boost to your character progression. However, exiting may prove slightly more ambiguous compared to other Kofun.

To make your escape, climb up to a shelf and drop into a previously visited room. You’ll need to discern the path to the exit, as you won’t be positioned close to it. To successfully exit, move to your right and continue until you spot light filtering in. Once you do, you will have completed the Chasuriyama Kofun in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
