The Coalescence of the Knife functions as a unique currency that players can acquire by uncovering hidden secrets in Destiny 2’s Heresy Act III. To ultimately obtain the fourth and final Catalyst for the Barrow-Dyad Exotic SMG, players must locate three distinct Knives dispersed throughout the game. However, securing these rewards can be challenging due to the reliance on random number generation (RNG).
This guide aims to outline each location where players can discover a Coalescence of the Knife within Destiny 2’s Heresy Act III.
Guide to Finding Coalescence of the Knife in Destiny 2
Before diving into the details of each collectible’s location, it’s essential to understand the significance of these items for unlocking the Barrow-Dyad Target Lock Catalyst. Players must gather all three Coalescence Knives, which are part of the new Nether secrets, and proceed to a designated area within the Hull Breach section of the Dreadnaught. Here, players will need to activate a portal, similar to the process for acquiring the second Catalyst. Collecting these Coalescence is critical, as they are necessary for portal activation.
Location #1: Coalescence Knife
During your journey through the Act III Week 1 seasonal storyline, you’ll come across a task that requires completing six side quests. Among these quests, you may earn a Coalescence Knife. While several players have reported receiving it from the Mission Dossier: Blade Logic, results may vary. Therefore, it’s advisable to complete all missions until you successfully obtain the collectible.
Location #2: Coalescence Knife
To find the second Coalescence, navigate to the Hull Breach area within The Nether and search for the Taken/Toland White orb. Approach the Orb and follow its movement. Eventually, it will come to rest near a blue flag, which will then become interactable.
Interacting with the Orb will summon a Taken Phalanx named Skyburner’s Grudge. Defeat this enemy to receive a buff called Legion Code displayed on your left. With this buff active, locate a cave entrance directly beneath the platform where the Phalanx was defeated. Inside the cave, utilize the code to disable the Cabal Barrier and access the chest containing the second Coalescence.
Do note that RNG plays a significant role here, as the Toland Orb may not spawn in every attempt. If it doesn’t appear, your best option is to either clear other parts of The Nether or replay the activity until you can find the Orb once again.
Location #3: Coalescence Knife
The third Coalescence can be obtained by advancing to the Founts area and solving two Hive Rune puzzles. To initiate, look for a pair of Hive Runes on either side of the Founts. They resemble the symbols shown in the image below.
Memorize the Rune sequence from left to right, then shoot them in the specific order within the room that contains these symbols. Successfully shooting them will cause a chest to appear.
For the next Rune, find the symbol located on a pillar near the newly spawned chest. Shooting this Rune will unlock a hidden passageway on the wall of the same room. Enter this secret pathway and navigate through the maze until you encounter a Taken Blight on the ground.
Be mindful that you’ll acquire a Suffocating Terror debuff, putting you under time pressure. Destroy the Blight to trigger the appearance of a chest. Loot this chest to collect the final Coalescence of the Knife. Similarly to the ‘Hull Breach,’ accessing the Founts cannot be guaranteed.
Beyond the main collectible spawn points, you might also find Coalescence of the Knife in the secret chests located within the three primary spawn areas. If you prefer skipping the challenges of Hull Breach or the Founts, consider exploring these chests for additional opportunities.
