Chet Hanks Enlists Tom Hanks in ‘Forrest Gump’-Inspired Music Video for “You Better Run”

Chet Hanks Takes Center Stage with New Music Video

This time, the spotlight shines not on Tom Hanks, but on his son, Chet Hanks, who has stepped into the limelight with his music career. Alongside his collaborator Drew Arthur, Chet has released a vibrant music video for their latest single titled “You Better Run.”

Forrest Gump Inspirations in “You Better Run”

The newly released music video draws heavily from themes and scenes reminiscent of Tom Hanks’ iconic film, Forrest Gump, which debuted in 1994. Notably, the music video includes an appearance by the Oscar-winning father himself.

One of the film’s most unforgettable moments occurs when young Jenny, portrayed by Hanna Hall, urges young Forrest, played by Michael Conner Humphreys, to “Run, Forrest, Run.” This line encapsulates Forrest’s relentless spirit and determination to forge ahead despite adversity, a quality that persists as Tom Hanks narrates his journey throughout the film.

Reimagining the Run

In the “You Better Run”music video, Chet Hanks pays homage to this seminal scene by showing him sprinting away from bullies, albeit this time mounted in a red pickup truck. The driving force behind the song’s lyrics reinforces a sense of urgency and thrill:

“You better run like the devil’s on your tail / Like you broke out of jail / Like a big storm’s comin’ / Run like a wild mustang / Like a bullet train / Let me tell you somethin’ / You’re running out of time on a tickin’ clock / She’ll be comin’ for you, there’s no time to walk / Run, run, run.”

Nostalgic Scenes and New Vibes

As the video unfolds, Chet also revisits a memorable moment from the film where Forrest sits on a bus bench and famously declares, “My mom always said, ‘Life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.'” However, in this modern twist, Chet doesn’t recite the classic line. Instead, he is seen vibing to “You Better Run,”with Tom Hanks seated beside him, portraying a look of concern and disappointment. Drew Arthur also makes an appearance on the bench in select scenes, adding to the nostalgic undertone.

A Legacy of Accolades

Forrest Gump went on to secure six Academy Awards, including one for Best Actor for Tom Hanks. The film artfully encapsulates the social and historical backdrop of the U.S. from the 1950s to the 1970s, viewed through the lens of Forrest—an Alabama native with a modest IQ, yearning for a reunion with his childhood love.
