The much-anticipated episode 8 of Below Deck Down Under Season 3, titled “Rumble in the Jungle,”debuted on Bravo on March 17, 2025. This episode placed a spotlight on the actions of bosun Wihan Du Toit, whose personal priorities began to interfere negatively with his responsibilities on the yacht.
Wihan’s preoccupations extended to his budding connection with crew member Adair Werley, leading him to neglect essential tasks and reduce his support for fellow crew members catering to charter guests.
Throughout the episode, Captain Jason Chambers reviewed CCTV footage, exposing Wihan’s lack of focus on his duties. The footage revealed him engrossed in scrolling through tortoise photos on Adair’s phone while Johnny Arvanitis was busy managing the anchor, signifying a troubling distraction.
“Are you kidding me? I can see everything on the CCTV. There’s no sense of urgency. We’re in a crowded anchorage. We’ve got swell coming in. I need all eyes on deck. It’s not acceptable,” Captain Jason reacted in his confessional.
Confrontation Over Work Ethic: Captain Jason Addresses Wihan
As some crew members busied themselves with the charter guests and their picnic party, Captain Jason took decisive action, relocating the vessels to evade swelling. He instructed Johnny Arvanitis to retrieve the anchor, only to find the anchor chain snagged as it was raised.
As Johnny struggled with the situation, Captain Jason’s CCTV surveillance unveiled Wihan’s further inattentiveness, where he continued to engage with Adair instead of addressing urgent tasks.
Frustrated by Wihan’s lack of urgency, the captain expressed his dissatisfaction during a confessional interview and later scolded both Wihan and Adair via radio, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus on their responsibilities.
Although Wihan and Adair promptly returned to their duties to resolve the anchor chain issue, Captain Jason later discovered Adair taking an unauthorized break to refill coffee for both herself and Wihan. Understanding the need for discipline, he reminded her that during work hours, breaks should not be taken lightly.
After the charter guests disembarked, Captain Jason called Wihan to the bridge for a serious discussion regarding his role on the yacht.
“So, I need you to sharpen your team up,” he said. “Caught Adair down getting you and her coffee this morning. Like that’s the moment that I need you to step up and go, ‘Hey. No. No coffee. 7 o’clock, we’re on.’ Not teaching your team the right way is not a leader,” he said.
Continuing with his address, Captain Jason sternly articulated the gravity of the situation:
“At the moment, I’m talking to you like a head of department. Now, the next step is me actually going out there and being that hard guy, and you don’t want me to. Because then I’m actually talking to you like a deckhand. So, don’t get me in that position.”
Captain Jason urged Wihan to re-evaluate his priorities and improve his overall attitude toward work and teamwork. He underscored the potential consequences of his current behavior, likening it to an “infection”likely to “spread like wildfire”if not addressed. Striking a serious tone, he warned that without significant change, he would be forced to take more drastic measures.
