Cannes: Exclusive U.K. Sale of ‘The Creep’ Reboot

True Brit Entertainment Secures Rights for ‘The Creep’ Remake

True Brit Entertainment has successfully acquired the rights to distribute The Creep in the United Kingdom and Ireland. This new film, directed by Christopher Smith, offers a fresh take on his 2004 horror classic that has garnered a cult following over the years.

A Star-Studded Cast

The reimagined film features an impressive cast, including Jasmine Jobson, known for her role in Top Boy, Andy Nyman, a prominent figure in the theater scene from Wicked, and U.K. rapper Aitch, who is making his acting debut in this project.

Plot Overview

The original The Creep follows the harrowing tale of a woman, portrayed by Franke Potente from Run Lola Run, who finds herself trapped overnight in the London Underground. As the story unfolds, she is hunted by a deformed killer lurking in the sewers beneath the city.

In this new iteration, the narrative centers around Chloe, played by Jobson, a struggling artist with a turbulent past as a drug mule. Chloe is thrust into a dangerous situation when she embarks on one last job: transporting drugs across London for her mysterious contact, Mads. As she boards the final train, carrying a heavy bag filled with drugs and cash, Chloe’s world spirals into chaos when a masked assailant begins a gruesome killing spree aboard the train.

After a harrowing escape into the dark and twisted tunnels of the Underground, Chloe finds herself captured by the grotesque psychopath and imprisoned with other frightened individuals. Together with the witty rapper Natter G, portrayed by Aitch, and the resourceful Nina, she must navigate a perilous maze in a desperate bid for survival.

Nyman appears as Dave, a fellow captive familiar with the deranged tactics of the Creep, further enriching the film’s tense atmosphere and layered storytelling.

Production Details

Filming for The Creep is scheduled to commence this fall in London. The original film’s producers, Julie Baines and Jason Newmark, return to helm this exciting reboot, collaborating through Baines’ Dan Films and Newmark’s Newscope Films. Additional production expertise will come from Jonathan Taylor of Dan Films and Laurie Cook of Newscope.

Notably, key members from the original film’s crew, including cinematographer Danny Cohen and production designer John Frankish, are also involved in this project, ensuring a cohesive connection to its predecessor.

Executive producers Peter Watson and Gabrielle Stewart, alongside True Brit’s founder and CEO Zygi Kamasa, will oversee the film’s production. Worldwide sales are being managed by HanWay Films, which also represented sales for the original The Creep.

The reboot has received development support from HanWay’s new initiative aimed at helping late-stage films complete production, with Nicole Mackey and Katie Ellen leading negotiations for the deal with True Brit Entertainment’s Nick Manzi.
