The Anticipation at Cannes: Celebrating “Die, My Love”
As the glamorous Cannes Film Festival of 2025 approached its world premiere festivities, one would expect that the cast and crew might exhibit signs of nervousness or jitters. However, Lynne Ramsay, the distinguished filmmaker behind Die, My Love, and her talented team showcased an air of tranquility and assurance amidst a delightful evening on the stunning French Riviera. This calm demeanor among stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Pattinson, LaKeith Stanfield, and Sissy Spacek perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the event.
On Friday evening, the signature scent of luxury filled the air as the sun dipped below the horizon. The light mist that lightly graced the terrace dissipated just in time for a magical cocktail hour at La Terrasse by Albane, hosted at the J.W. Marriott. This exclusive dinner, sponsored by Longines, honored the premiere of Die, My Love and was presented by The Hollywood Reporter.
A Culinary Journey
The phrase “Die, My Love”may suggest intensity, yet the atmosphere was light and filled with joy. The reunion facilitated heartfelt embraces and laughter among the film’s collaborators who had not seen each other since filming concluded. Guests were treated to a sumptuous summer dinner curated by acclaimed Argentine chef Mauro Colagreco, who commands three Michelin stars at his establishment, Mirazur, in Menton. The menu included artichokes adorned with bottarga and aged parmesan, marinated tomatoes with basil and buffalo mozzarella, and for the main course, diners could select from succulent John Dory or a tender beef steak, both accompanied by green asparagus and pea purée. Dessert choices were equally enticing, featuring Rum Baba with eggnog and toffee caramel or strawberries paired with creamy white chocolate and elderflower.

Toasting to Creativity
Before the first courses were served, Maer Roshan, co-editor-in-chief of The Hollywood Reporter, and Longines CEO Mattias Breschan, raised their glasses in acknowledgment of the Die, My Love team. Roshan expressed his enthusiasm for being present among esteemed guests, including publisher Lori O’Connor and awards expert Scott Feinberg. He conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the creative minds behind the film and underscored the collective hope that a distributor would circle in before the grand premiere at the Grand Lumière the following day.
In an engaging moment, Roshan acknowledged the roles of the producers involved in this Cannes entry, prominently featuring Jennifer Lawrence and her collaborator Justine Ciarrocchi. Lawrence ensured to highlight another cinematic icon, Martin Scorsese, whose influence resonates within the industry. The premiere signifies a crucial milestone for Black Label Media, recalling their last Cannes presence with the esteemed film Sicario directed by Denis Villeneuve.
Breschan, representing Longines’ longstanding partnership with Lawrence, commented on the true essence of time, emphasizing its significance in filmmaking. Dressed elegantly in her Longines DolceVita watch, Lawrence embodied the grace associated with Longines’ motto, “elegance is an attitude.” The captivating cocktail hour captured the synergy of this elegance, curated meticulously by the renowned Danielle Pelland from Brilliant Consulting.

Exploring Themes in “Die, My Love”
In her latest endeavor, Ramsay has cast the celebrated Jennifer Lawrence in a deeply emotional role, portraying a new mother grappling with postpartum depression and the tenuous grip on reality that can accompany it. Collaboratively directed by Ramsay, along with co-writers Enda Walsh and Alice Birch, this film marks her return to Cannes after her previous acclaimed entries, including Ratcatcher, We Need to Talk About Kevin, and You Were Never Really Here.
Despite the ongoing editing process leading up to the premiere, Ramsay exhibited remarkable composure, a testament to her resilience as a filmmaker. Pre-premiere sentiments were overwhelmingly optimistic, with numerous industry professionals present including Rick Yorn, Cooke Maroney, and editor Toni Froschammer, all eager to celebrate the occasion.
Ciarrocchi articulated the shared sentiment as she addressed the gathering, reflecting, “Assembling this incredible team is a remarkable experience. Every film is a journey, and this one demanded immense dedication and artistry. Reunion at Cannes is profoundly moving, and working with Lynne Ramsay is indeed one of our greatest career privileges.”
