To initiate a romantic connection with Caldarus in Fields of Mistria, your first mission is to rescue him from his current predicament. This entails breaking the spell that has confined him to his statue form. The backstory of how he was ensnared in this form will unfold later in the game; for now, your primary goal is to set the Dragon free.
Unlocking Caldarus in Fields of Mistria
Unlike many other potential romantic partners in the game, Caldarus is not accessible right away. Initially, after interacting with him, you will find him as a statue requiring specific tasks to be completed before you can progress. To unlock Caldarus, venture deep into the mines and descend to level 60, where your journey truly begins.
Breaking the Seal in Fields of Mistria
Upon reaching the 60th level, you will encounter the fire seal that keeps Caldarus imprisoned. It’s essential to bring the rubbing of this seal’s text to Juniper for translation. She will provide you with a list of necessary items to dismantle the fire seal:
- Emerald
- Faceted Rock Gem
- Rockroot
- Sealing Scroll
The first three items can be sourced from the mines, but to acquire the Sealing Scroll, you’ll need to consult Balor with Juniper’s assistance. Balor will take about three in-game days to locate a seller for this vital item.
Once you have all the required materials, return to the mines for a pivotal cutscene. A warning from the Priestess will caution you about the scroll being a trap. During this sequence, the scroll attempts to control you, leading to a frantic escape. After this event, Caldarus will finally break free from his statue form and retreat into the Deep Woods.
Gaining Access to the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria
To enter the Deep Woods, navigate to the eastern side of town, near the carpenter’s shop, where you will encounter dense thorns blocking the path. Use the Dragon’s Breath spell to clear these obstacles. Proceed by veering right to enter the woods. After overcoming or cutting through a fallen tree, head toward the temple where Caldarus awaits.
Calderus spends much of his time at this temple, and by the end of the cutscene, he will officially be recognized as a member of Mistria.
