Bungie Shuts Down Early Access to Marathon Alpha Servers on Xbox

Bungie’s Marathon Alpha servers mistakenly launched on Xbox a day earlier than scheduled. Originally set to go live on April 23, 2025, the servers unexpectedly activated on April 22. Bungie acted swiftly to address this premature release, taking the servers offline within a few hours.

Bungie Reacts to Early Launch of Marathon Alpha Servers

The highly-anticipated extraction shooter, Marathon, is slated for public release on September 23, 2025. Prior to this, Bungie had organized a Closed Alpha Test exclusively for players in North America. Due to the removal of the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) surrounding this test, players could freely discuss their experiences, aiding in the game’s development.

On April 22, the accidental launch granted Xbox players early access to the game. This allowed them to explore a new map called Perimeter, which had not yet been showcased in any official trailers. Many players took to streaming their gameplay, but the content predominantly focused on the introductory tutorial phase of Marathon.

Some players who had access to the Alpha encountered various challenges, including preliminary character builds and prolonged load times, which hindered their overall gaming experience. Despite these setbacks, the unexpected early access showcased the initial offerings of Marathon.

As of now, the servers are no longer accessible; however, players can look forward to the scheduled relaunch on April 23, 2025, as Bungie originally intended.
