BTS Members’ Proud Military Moments: Taehyung’s Sergeant Promotion and Jimin’s Special Warrior Rank Ahead of Discharge

The members of BTS are approaching the end of their military service, having each fulfilled their conscription duties as mandated by South Korea’s policy for able-bodied males. Enlisting between 2022 and 2023, the group’s journey through military training has been characterized by dedication and outstanding performance.

Leading the way, Jin commenced his service on December 13, 2022, with an expected discharge date of June 12, 2024. J-Hope followed suit, enlisting on April 18, 2023, and set to complete his service by October 17, 2024. SUGA, who faced health concerns, began his service as a public service worker on September 22, 2023, and is slated to be discharged on June 21, 2025. RM and V started their military training on December 11, 2023, while Jimin and Jungkook began their active-duty service a day later.

During their time in the military, each member has excelled and achieved remarkable milestones, reflecting both their personal dedication and the high standards expected of them.

1) Jin (Kim Seok-jin)

Jin, the eldest member of BTS, quickly stood out during his basic training at Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi-do. As the first to enlist, he was appointed company commander trainee, leading a group of over 200 recruits during their graduation.

His exceptional performance in physical training and CBRN exercises earned him the Special Class (Elite) Warrior title, a recognition for soldiers demonstrating excellence across evaluations. Promoted to Corporal and later to Sergeant in December 2023—four months ahead of schedule—Jin’s commitment is evident through his actions, such as carrying the gear of fellow soldiers during challenging marches.

Serving as an assistant instructor, Jin was respected for his leadership style and generosity, leading to affectionate nicknames like “Captain Korea Jin”among his peers.

2) J-Hope (Jung Ho-seok)

Enlisting in April 2023, J-Hope graduated from boot camp in May 2023, earning the Private First Class rank. He subsequently accepted a demanding position as an assistant instructor at the 36th Infantry Division Recruitment Training Center, a role that underscored his commitment to fostering the next generation of soldiers.

In October 2023, he received the Special Warrior title after excelling in rigorous evaluations, including a remarkable mental strength score exceeding 90 out of 100. His dedicated service led to an early promotion to Corporal and participation in prestigious events, including the Ministry of National Defense Honor Guard presentation in April 2024.

J-Hope’s efforts culminated in his victory at the Strong Warrior Army Speech Competition in June 2024, spotlighting his pride in training other recruits while sparking changes in military policies regarding K-pop idols’ roles in service.

3) RM (Kim Nam-joon)

Following his enlistment in December 2023 and graduation from the Nonsan Training Center in January 2024, RM distinguished himself as one of only four Elite Soldiers in a cohort of 200. His impressive performance earned him a series of rapid promotions, reaching the rank of Sergeant by February 2025.

4) V (Kim Tae-hyung)

After basic training, V joined the elite Special Duty Team (SDT) of the ROKA Military Police on February 8, 2024, a unit recognized for high-stakes operations including counter-terrorism. Despite injuries during training, V earned the Special Warrior status on March 3, 2025, excelling in shooting competitions and winter urban warfare drills.

Honored with the Military Police Excellence Award, V continued to show exemplary performance while also contributing to his unit through charitable acts like donating workout equipment and treating peers to meals.

5) Jimin (Park Ji-min)

Graduating at the top of his class on January 17, 2024, Jimin was awarded the Division Commander’s Award for Best Trainee. His subsequent deployment to the prestigious Artillery Fire Direction Center (FDC) showcased his analytical skills. Jimin’s standout performance during harsh outdoor training earned him recognition as a Special Warrior at the Korea Combat Training Center in June 2024.

His commitment and consistent excellence led to early promotions to Corporal by September 2024 and Sergeant by March 2025, earning accolades from his superiors, fellow soldiers, and fans alike.

6) Jungkook (Jeon Jung-kook)

Currently serving as a military cook, Jungkook’s role is demanding yet vital. His humility and hardworking attitude have garnered respect from both citizens and fans alike. He was promoted to Sergeant in March 2025, reinforcing his commitment to service amidst the rigorous demands of his position.

While SUGA continues to serve in a public service capacity, specific details about his duties remain private, with his discharge date set for June 21, 2025. RM and V are expected to complete their service shortly before him, on June 10, 2025, with Jimin and Jungkook following the next day, June 11, 2025.

The members of BTS have not only honored their national service obligations but have also strengthened their connection with fans, earning admiration globally for their commitment and integrity.
