Assassin’s Creed Shadows Sees Impressive Physical Sales Launch in Key Region

Overview

  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows maintains its position as the top-selling physical game in the UK for two consecutive weeks.
  • An impressive 84% of sales came from PlayStation 5 copies.
  • The game’s inaugural DLC, titled Claws of Awaji, is set to launch in late 2025.

For the second week running, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has secured the top position in the UK’s physical game sales rankings. Despite facing challenges prior to its release, Ubisoft’s latest installment in the legendary franchise has emerged successful, with global sales on the rise since its debut on March 20, 2025.

Anticipation for an Assassin’s Creed game set in Japan has been palpable among fans since the franchise’s inception. Following several delays and controversies, Assassin’s Creed Shadows finally graced the market to largely favorable reviews. Remarkably, it surpassed the launch day player counts of its predecessors, Origins and Odyssey. The development team has committed to ongoing support through updates and patches, while the first expansion, Claws of Awaji, is expected to release in late 2025. Notably, a significant number of players are opting for physical copies, diverging from the digital sales trend observed in many regions.

According to Push Square, Assassin’s Creed Shadows dominated the recent UK physical sales chart, with 84% of all copies sold for the PlayStation 5. Comparatively, the game outperformed Star Wars Outlaws, which struggled to match its sales figures over a three-month period, and even surpassed Monster Hunter Wilds, a title that has held strong in the market. Other new releases also showed promise in physical sales; for instance, the Soulslike game The First Berserker: Khazan scored a sixth-place ranking, while Atomfall by Rebellion Developments quickly climbed to the second position shortly after its March 27 launch.
