During a live stream on March 10, 2025, popular Twitch streamer Zack “Asmongold”voiced his support for unbanning controversial figures in the streaming community such as Sneako, Fresh&Fit, and Destiny, should he take the reins of the Amazon-owned platform.
To provide some background, the Fresh&Fit podcast was banned from Twitch in September 2024. Although Sneako’s channel was reinstated in October, it faced another indefinite ban within mere hours. Similarly, Destiny has remained banned since 2022 due to his contentious content.
Asmongold recognizes that due to Twitch’s stringent policies, it’s difficult to lift bans on creators like Sneako and Fresh&Fit. He expressed his thoughts on the potential for reform, suggesting that if he were in charge, he would also advocate for the unbanning of Destiny based on the principles of “free speech.”He discussed the complexity of the situation, especially regarding Adin Ross, another prominent streamer whose status he was uncertain about:
“Realistically Sneako, Fresh&Fit should’ve never been unbanned based on the stuff that they say. And if it was up to me, Sneako, Fresh&Fit, Adin Ross, I don’t know about Adin Ross because it’s putting out money to do something to somebody which is very complex, right? All these people, like Destiny, would get unbanned. This is coming at it from a free speech perspective.”
Revisiting Twitch’s Ban Policies: A Call for Clarity
In his discussion, Asmongold highlighted that streamers like Sneako and Myron Gaines from Fresh&Fit have faced bans primarily due to their off-platform actions, which contravene Twitch’s content policies. He articulated a need for proper enforcement and adherence to existing regulations:
“But if I come at it from the perspective of what the rules on Twitch are, the fact is that the rules on Twitch disallow off-platform behavior. That is what Sneako and Fresh&Fit’s Myron do. They literally break the rules. So of course they’re going to do that.”
Despite his acknowledgement of the current rules leading to these bans, Asmongold expressed a desire for a shift in policy. He emphasized that under his hypothetical leadership, Twitch would adopt a more lenient approach, focusing bans exclusively on illegal activities:
“I’m just saying, if it was up to me, nobody would be getting banned for anything other than breaking the law. That would be like, if I ran the website the way that I wanted to, that would be the rules. But according to the rules, they did break the rules.”
It is worth noting that Asmongold’s political views have attracted significant controversy, resulting in his departure from the Austin-based streaming organization, OTK. His opinions continue to spark debates within the broader streaming community.
