Asmongold Commentary on Ubisoft Earnings After Assassin’s Creed Shadows Release

Popular Twitch streamer Zack “Asmongold”has recently voiced his opinions regarding Ubisoft’s latest earnings report, following the release of their much-anticipated title, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. Ubisoft experienced a staggering 18% decline in share prices after revealing a 20.5% drop in net bookings and a significant operating loss of 15.1 million euros for the fiscal year.

Asmongold expressed concern over the optimism of many gamers, suggesting that they were using “copium”to cope with the game’s disappointing performance. During his analysis of the financial results, he posed a critical question:

“Here’s the real question, right? If they announced that the company was doing really well, and Assassin’s Creed was actually a huge commercial success, and it was the big game that everything was riding on, why was the result of this earnings report that the stock went down?…. Assassin’s Creed: Shadows has now been beat out by Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, a game that added to Steam almost seven years ago.”

Asmongold’s Critique of Ubisoft’s Situation: “We only lost $90 million”

The game Assassin’s Creed: Shadows presents players with a dual narrative featuring two protagonists, each endowed with distinct abilities. Set in 16th-century Japan, the storyline navigates the intense conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order. This title launched on March 20, 2025, but has already sparked controversy.

Notably, Shadows features two playable characters, including Yasuke, an African samurai, and Fujibayashi Naoe, a female shinobi portrayed in a same-sex relationship, which has elicited varied reactions from the gaming community.

Commenting on the earnings report’s bleak projections, Asmongold remarked:

“How many of you, whenever you’re doing your report to your company that you work at, do you tell your boss, I’ve got good news, we only lost $90 million.”

He further noted that some fans seem “allergic to reality”regarding the gaming franchise’s status and Ubisoft’s overall performance, stating:

“Listen, I don’t know why these people are so allergic to reality… Day one PlayStation Network Ubisoft performance record Assassin’s Creed Shadows? Like do you understand how many qualifying statements that goes through? This should’ve been obvious when they started using deceptive vocabulary, players versus sales, and unorthodox/irrelevant success points.”

In a related discussion, Asmongold has also stirred debate with his remarks on character aesthetics in video games. Asserting that a majority of gamers are male, he claimed that they tend to prefer visually appealing characters. His remarks have generated considerable online chatter.
